If people use the toilet like they do ATM's they should expect a wait.

Take a crap. Flush the toilet. Take a p*ss. Flush the toilet. Try to take another p*ss again just in case. Flush the toilet. Try to take another crap just in case. Flush the toilet. Wipe. Flush the toilet...

    You get the idea.

Now that ATM thing is an annoyance I have. I take maybe 30 seconds (unless a slow atm itself) yet the locals take 3-4 minutes each, just wow. Sure hope they don't p*ss like that.

I agree, I think the wait is normal. But I think the wait is caused by the need to have a conversation with others about everything before anything is committed to a plan of action. Having a conversation, discussion and decision on activity with yourself takes time because you are usually talking with a fool. But working with a group allows a decision to be made quicker. Have you ever observed two Filipinos trying to order a meal... lots of conversation, discussion and changing of the order. That is why you will seldom see a Filipino eat alone.. no one to decide what to eat. If they are by themselves they just do not eat at all. All activities and decisions toward an action seem to require a lot more conversation and discussion for Filipinos than Expats to take action. That is why Private stalls do not work, they do not allow the group decision making process to keep moving forward toward a plan of action. There is lot of indecision and back peddling going on.
Private stalls do not allow necessary conversation and discussion with eye contract (unless you are very very tall) that is a cultural requirement to take an action. That is why the local open walls works so well... Walls allow urinating to be a group activity which includes group conversations, discussion and appropriate actions, ie: "Wow, do you think it better to urinate high or low on the wall? How do you control splash back ? Do you give a $hit about splash back? Yes, when I am barefoot or have on rubber slippers. Good advice I will wear rubber shoes next time and shoot low (a decision is made) ...... Hey, is your sister still single? Do you think she likes me? Maybe .... Hey, I have an extra goat for the family. We need another goat (a decision is made) " etc. :o o:

Understanding the culture is the essence of adapting to the world.

I don't know what they do in the toilets in the Philippines, but the wait would be excruciatingly long. I would get in, do my business and get out. I think they primp in the toilet, then go out to the mirror/sink and brush their teeth, apply makeup, fix their hair, admire themselves, and do it all again....all the while I am waiting to just wash my hands so I can get out of there!!

    I don't know.
If I feel you are being rude banging on the door I will slow down, wash my hands like a surgeon, check my hair and wash my face for extra long time. If I was taking to long in the first place I would apologize and get out as fast as possible.
