Excluding the Rambos and Chuck Norris Vietnam War movies, there were a few good ones. My favorites in order are: Full Metal Jacket We Were Soldiers Once Deer Hunter Apocalypse Now Platoon Good Morning Vietnam Others Casualties of War Heaven and Earth Hamburger Hill Born on the Fourth of July There are others but I lump them together
We don't need or want a discussion of the American elections (nor of the Philippines'). But there is a non-partisan aspect that interests me. Almost certainly we will have one more president from my generation, the Vietnam War era. Two such have already served: Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Both of them avoided or evaded service in Vietnam. The three current Vietnam-era candidates are Trump, Sanders and Hillary Clinton. The two men both avoided or evaded service. Three past presidential candidates actually served in Vietnam: John Kerry, Al Gore and John McCain. All three during their campaigns were attacked and slimed for their service (McCain during the South Carolina year 2000 primary, and again during this year's). Kerry and Gore came out of the Ivies--Harvard and Yale. Very few men of the Ivies let themselves be drafted into service.
My favourite is Apocalypse Now closely followed by Full Metal Jacket but all my favourite quotes except (i love the smell of napalm in the morning) come from Full Metal Jacket, 1. If they run they are vc, if they don't run they are well trained vc 2. How can you shoot women and children, easy you just don't hate them so much 3. Ann Margaret is coming so i want some low angle shots, i want to see fur and early morning dew 4.And last but not least (Private Snowball, we do not serve fried chicken and watermelon in my mess-hall)
