Started a week ago, wonder about ticket costs for bikes & cars. P1450 one way with P380/head, for bikes, P3500 for cars, P380/head. Hmm, only in emergencies for me I guess.
Bikes and cars? I thought it was a fast cat not a ro-ro. Sign on the shack at the dock says it only goes to Dapitan
That would be the first fast cat roro I have seen in the Philippines (but I haven't been everywhere), all others I have seen were passenger only. I don't think I would like using them because the fast cat for passengers makes quick turn arounds, if you had to wait for loading vehicles, it would slow the process down.
FASTCAT - FerrySafe, FerryFast, FerryConvenient Dumaguete to Dapitan, Mindanao. 300-500 pesos per passenger, depending on class and discounts. Vehicles cost 1450 pesos or more depending on the vehicle. It is a 3 hour trip that is 42 miles (68km), average speed 14 mph (23kph) not so fast. That means it would take that ferry 6 hours to Cebu since it is about 85 miles straight shot. There is no route from Dumaguete to Cebu with fast cat, probably because there is already a ferry that takes 6 hours to Cebu. The bus is about 6 hours to Cebu as well. The plane to Cebu is about a 4 hour investment of time for a 30 minute flight. The type of passenger only fastcraft around Hong Kong would be in Dapitan in 1 hour and Cebu in 2 hours from Dumaguete. A truly fast and affordable ferry to Cebu would be a blessing.
Would be a welcome option of course. Are there enough passengers who are willing to pay a much higher ticket price compared with the fares the current operating ferries do charge. Secondly the investment that has to be made when such a company will finally start to make profit after the investment is back is another question. Have no idea if ever some marketing research has been done to found out it is worth to offer such a connection. By own car on early Sunday morning, taking the RoRo to Lilo An or Bato it still requires 3 hours to get in Cebu city, ferry time included.
