Well here we are again. The first brownout at 11:11, came back at 11:17, gone again at 11:22.
Go figure. No rain, suns out no storms. What gives ?

There is a light breeze today up in Valencia today. Doesn't take much more than that to knock out the infrastructure here.

(To add insult to injury, I had just paid my electric bill about 20 minutes before the brownout. Quality service right there!)

I was surprised it stayed on all day yesterday also with the strong wind and heavy rain in the afternoon! Maybe all the coconut branches have fallen now and we will be ok for a while!

The brownouts here are nowhere near as bad as the brownouts we had in Puerto Galera. For every outage we have here, there have probably been about 5 in PG. Plus, they last all day and sometimes through the night. So far I've only experienced short brownouts here in Dumaguete (Bacong area). Only last about 5 minutes and not very often.

Knock on wood Ophelia. It's only a matter of time unfortunately until you experience more brownouts here.
There is always some place worse of course. That is life in general. It does not justify the amount of power outages we have here though. Hopefully they are fixing ahead of time the reasons we have the brownouts here, but I for one am not holding my breath. Perhaps you have brought us all some good luck in this area.

I was just saying about the same thing earlier today. The brownouts here in Bacong seem to be less frequent and much shorter, especially recently, over the last few months than the beginning of the year when I was living in Duma.

When I moved to Bacong about three years ago, I experienced my first brown out. My landlord came by, and I expressed my concern that I had no electricity... She asked "How many days has it been?" My expectations about electricity brown outs immediately got updated with her question ... lol.

Maybe I am getting lucky and am out of the house when they happen (in Dauin today). Also I think we are on different (substations?) so we are affected differently. I would guess about 3 a week in the last month, all but a couple the 5 minute relay switchover between 10pm and midnight with the others being less than 2 hours between 2am and 5am. I expected the storms to interrupt power but never did that I noticed anyway.

    BROWNOUTS ON SIQUIJOR

I have been living in barangay Sandugan on Siquijor island for 6 years, and during that time there are been many, many brownouts. Some of the reasons are quite legitimate, especially during typhoon season. The majority of the time there is no severe weather but the brownouts continue. However, there is one consistent exception: on the months or so leading up to the elections, the brownouts miraculously disappear. I thought at first it was an act of god, but no such luck. So, we have all learned to hold our electricity-intensive festivities at the same period of pre-election.

On the serious side of this issue, what really is the base cause of almost daily brownouts, except during election time? It is my understanding that all Siquijor residents must pay taxes for municipal services, such as electricity and water, along with government salaries, infrastructure, etc. Does anyone have any reliable and reasonable answers as to why there is a perpetual shortfall in maintaining electricity service to all of Siquijor? And why does this problem persist in most all municipalities on Negros?
