"In a television interview last week, Mayor Ipe Remollo said that starting tomorrow till Friday, August 15 - 19, sidewalks painted green will be off-limits to motorcycles, pedicabs, 4-wheeled vehicles and vendors. The green sidewalks will solely be for pedestrians to walk on. This will be an "information dissemination week" and no fines will be charged yet.

Starting next Monday, August 22, violators will be penalized.

Let's observe and see if tinuod ba gyud ni!"

Note: It may be easier to find Pokeman than find a green sidewalk in Dumaguete but you will not miss them you see them. When the paint wears off you can park on them.
To help identify "pedestrians" it is suggest you wear green shirts so you are not run over by the locals.
Siliman College is working with this program.

I get aroused just imagining being able to walk on the sidewalks without maneuvering around parked vehicles. All I can say is Wow.

On second thought, the dogs are going to think this is great as they can sh*t without fear of being run over so we need to watch our step.
I think I recognize the green sidewalk in the pic. It looks to be across the street from downtown Mooon Cafe and Captain Ribbers. No one is gonna be driving on that as there are too many trees in the way. Painting it green is not going to do anything. But there is hope for other sidewalks.

Fyi, sidewalks were painted green with water-based fingerpaint. They will be green until the next rain and only repainted right before the next election cycle.

Or walk from Noreco to SkyCable to pay both those bills without having to play 'frogger' with the traffic. (Apologies to the youngsters who never played frogger and have no clue what I'm talking about).

Create a traffic-free path to wherever you like. And if you buy some actual heavy duty paint designed for roadways your paths will be the only ones remaining after a month or so. :sneaky:

There was a pedestrian law passed around a year ago, wouldn't it make money to enforce the law without the expense of labor and paint especially when motorcycles and pedicabs look at it as a traffic free clean place to drive or park?

Looking at those photo's its looking like the actual blocking of parking is due to downed lines or a city fixing project. the department of public works I wouldn't think would be handling putting up signs for LTO and such but they would handle such when its a public danger issue such as downed power lines.

As far as it actually being enforced and staying enforced it would only work if they are willing to impound vehicles of all manner who park on sidewalks or impede the flow of traffic be it a motorcycle, car, suv, truck, or trike. They could do a 2 week long public awareness and on the 15th day they would still need room to impound a couple hundred vehicles.
