Dumaguete airport in Negros Oriental continues to remain at a downgraded status with the issue on trees that need to be cut still unresolved to this date.

Airport OIC manager Elmer Ablir said there are currently no ongoing negotiations between the government and the private individual who owns the trees which aviation authorities regard as dangerous to aircraft.

    “It's a stalemate”, he said.

Ablir, however, declined to elaborate, saying he will reserve his comment on the issue for now.

While the effects of a downgraded airport may not be fairly visible at the moment, Ablir cautioned that the consequences will rise in a couple of months or as soon as the “amihan” or trade wind season dominated by the northeast wind will commence.

For now, during the “habagat” season with prevailing west or southwest winds, minimal effects of the downgraded runway have been experienced so far, Ablir added.

A downgraded status means that the approach to Runway 09 or the west runway of the airport is not allowed for the landing of bigger aircraft such as the Airbus, he said.

Commercial jets can only land at the Sibulan-Dumaguete airport coming in from the east approach, he added. DAILY STAR: Negros Oriental

I'm not sure how many flights but I'm sure I'd be royally screwed if I was leaving Dumaguete to connect to an international flight in Manila and they chose that day to decide the plane could not land. Only in da Philippines?

There are a number of flights to and from Manila, maybe around 4 direct ones. Will it also affect the Cebu-Dgte small propeller type? I usually don't come home during the "ber" months so I don't know.

The turbo prop type might be the only planes allowed in after the wind changes!

    You would be surprised.

If you watch for the specials you can get good deals any time. Here is the price for round trip for 2 in December. From DUM to MNL and back for 2 people for only 5746 pesos.

Maybe true with domestic but prices double from Narita-Cebu in December ("habagat"but lesser typhoon).
I only come home when it's P14k /head. Better deals to land in Manila but I can't catch the domestic flight on time. The plane arrives in Mactan past 4pm but I do spend a night in Cebu like when I land in Manila even if there's a late ferry to Tampi. I still find Cebu exit less stressful compared to Manila.

Is this a tree or a bush? Because if it were a bush, then this is what I imagine it would look like.
