I've been waking up around 4-5 am recently and I'm at a complete loss at what to do prior to 10 am. I go in town and have a coffee at one of the McDonald's but after that I'm at a complete loss on what to do. I enjoy people watching but sober people provide a rather bland experience, far to polite, courteous and cautious (like watching a NASCAR race with a 55mph speed limit). I haven't found much of anything open earlier than 10am and end up just driving around town looking for new side roads to use as short cuts to get around traffic later on in the day.

So what do the early risers on the forum do prior to Robinsons/restaurants opening? I'm either overlooking something that's open early or you guys have some hobbies to keep you entertained/busy.

 Well this is where I learnt (Learned) from my Father and Grandfather that we have to ask ourselves did we ever have time to Work. Of Course, being a Home Owner has its List of things to get done but I guess renters sometimes have a need to what has to be done but in the main I clear the Dogs Doodah, get rid of the leaves that have fallen or Blown in the night Generally tidy the garden up. After this it is time for Brekky, having walked the Critters and thought about what needs to be done (pay Bills, Shop etc) or just go on Line. by the time Coffee time comes everything is Open. Then usually I can't be bothered to do anything as I get tired quite quickly now, Yes, we have some workers but the results are some days questionable so I do it myself while able. One day maybe when her indoors retires, we might do as it seems many do, have Breakfast out. just at the Moment there is far more to do at home  having said this of course it has to remembered that many of us are Retired and look at life with a different perspective.

I wake up, have a morner (sooner than a nooner), shower, wake up the boy, have breakfast, drop the boy off at school, walk the 1.8K harbor walk, go to the gym, go to the mall for coffee, wife shops for lunch and dinner, pick up boy at school, morning over, another day in paradise.

I know the Golf course is open at 6 am. I used to go there for coffee and hit a bucket of balls. There are a few nice people there to chat with.

I generally go to bed about 8 every night and awake when the CR calls anywhere from 11 pm to 2 in the morning. After that I make my cup of instant coffee and come out to the office and check to see if my three aircraft tracking receivers are working here and with the two in Cebu. I track all the aircraft in the air at any given time within 250 miles of Dumaguete for 3 aircraft tracking sites. They provide the equipment and I provide the internet. I also maintain servers to put all the local tracking on the internet as a hobby.

I have 2 HD satellite receivers for the house but they don't carry one channel I am interested in watching and listening to while I do my computer work and that is MSNBC which is streamed over the internet by a couple of hobbyist like me. I seem to be more creative when it is early and quiet around here.

Around about 5:30 the cook arrives and it is time to awake my partner and her teenaged daughter to get ready for work and school. Oldies like us tend to be the step and fetch it guys in the family and the designated drivers. I lay out the eggs and bacon and pancake mix for the cook and instruct her daily on how to fix it.

After breakfast and about 8:30 I have them all delivered. By this time Robinson Market and Lee Plaza grocery are open as well as the fast food places.

I used to go to MCd by the park but it caused drama in the family because of the fear I would be seduced by one of the unsavory ladies there. Goodness no one would like me...my budget is about 50p a day including my cigs...hahaha. Now occasionally I stop in to Whynots and see a few friends and go home.

I only have about 15 minutes of energy so frequent naps are necessary after a short walk or driving.

I would recommend getting a hobby to keep your mind active and avoid political and religious discussions with your acquaintances which will help keep your blood pressure down. Listen more than you talk.

For early morning hardware needs the hardware below the Robinson Market is open and for one time use tools Unitop opens early also. Your results may vary.

An 'early riser' usually means I have to get all Barry White with the Mrs until, oh midday. Then the bars are usually open. I kid thee....

In the Phils getting the kids off to school/college seems to require the logistics of a small army corps on exercise, so that usually takes 3 or so hours. I'd love to take a dive first thing then kick back for the rest but it never pans out that way. Usually some or other emergency to tend to, something needs fixing etc.

I wouldn't swap the earlies for anything though. Best part of the day imo. Sometimes the peace and quiet is more than enough.

I am also an early riser - usually 5 - 5.30am. I am greeted by a hungry cat and a dog which requires a walk. So, feed the cat, take the dog for a long walk on the beach, feed the dog, go for a swim either in the sea if the tide is right or the pool if it is not. Take a shower, put the laundry on and catch up on the news and Facebook. Then breakfast. By this time it is about 9am, time for a bit of reading. Maybe you should consider a pet: Entertaining and time consuming!

I'm sometimes up at 3:30. Shower, out the door. Hit McD's for a coffee at a bit past 4. Work from there until around 5:30 and then hit Bethel for breakfast until 7ish. Gie-gie's opens early at 7 I believe. There are a bunch of small eateries which open early as well.

At Bethel, I can watch the sun-set while I'm eating. Seems like a good start to the day.

I am so blessed to be with somebody who wakes up at at 8 am! It's only a few times in the past five years that he kicks his butt out of bed at six to drive to Narita for our trips. Sadly, we are still working towards retirement so I have no choice but to watch shows with him until midnight to keep the sleep-and-work routine. I can't sleep early with the tv on which is only ten meters away from bed and and that problem remains while we still live in this apartment. The shows he download are good but I also want to read which I do on my train ride to work and back. Now I'm enrolled at a continuing education program, learning how to write. That is why I am so looking forward to those glorious early hours to myself when I retire. Read and write.

Headphones may be in order. You can block most of the light also if you try.
