Been here four months and this is the longest rain i've seen (going on 20 hours). Am i correct in assuming we are getting the edges of this thing ??
Hey Davy, thanks for bringing it to our attention. TROPICAL STORM {HAIMA} See the announcement from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Request Rejected (if the link says "request rejected," i think it still works anyway) Looks like 141 hours away as of 10 this am, about 5 days away, if it doesn't change speed or direction. At that location and direction it looks more like Luzon again, after Karen. For: TROPICAL STORM {HAIMA} (1622) Issued at: 11:00 AM, 15 October 2016 TROPICAL STORM {HAIMA} AT 10:00 AM LOCATION: 1,840 KM EAST OF MINDANAO (8.6°N, 143.1°E) MAXIMUM WINDS: UP TO 65 KPH GUSTINESS: UP TO 80 KPH CENTRAL PRESSURE: 997 HPA MOVEMENT: WEST NORTHWEST @ 13 KPH This Tropical Cyclone is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday and will be named “LAWIN”. Just been talking to a mate in bayawan and still raining there also, nice to have some rain but think we've had about enough now!
Typhoon lawin, the strongest storm on this planet as of now and trying to become the strongest this year!
Will someone PLEASE explain to me WHY the PH gummint changed the name of the typhoon from "Haima" to "Lawin". Perhaps the answer is "because they can."
You are right because they can. "Haima" is the International word for it but when it is in the Area of Concern for the PI it is changed to a Local name, "Lawin" many Countries do this when these things happen. Most locals won't/Don't understand the International name but there own name seems to upset them less.
