Yeah, this happened on Obama's watch. Somehow the most pro-US nation in S.E. Asia is now talking "cutting ties". This will be for Hillary to clean up, hopefully. We don't need another bat-sh*t crazy world leader and Trump would be in over his head dealing with China and Russia. Of course, Duterte is over his head as well. The Chinese must have been beside themselves, Duterte just jumped in their lap and looked weak. I bet they could have got a reach-around if they asked for one.

It will be interesting to see how the U.S. responds to this. With one of the major pieces of the game handed to the Chinese, I don't see how it's worth continuing to bother with the area. But the influence game continues.

From the U.S. perspective, the Philippines just gave up all it's leverage. I doubt this would happen, but imagine if the U.S. used human rights as an excuse to go whole hog on pushing back. Pull all aid, GTFO of the country and send Filipino citizens back home. Duterte's popularity rating could drop like a rock and problem solved. The next president patches things up and game back on.

From reading all the posts here about the various options and possibilities of outcomes for Duterte. All of these outcomes appear to result in us getting screwed and ending up with the shitty end of the stick that was used to stir up this mess.
One good result from all this is it has gotten my wife interested in the way the Government works. She wanted Duterte elected but now is afraid that was a bad idea.

you seem to be forgetting the get up and go enthusiasm of the filipino worker, you seem to be forgetting this is a predominantly catholic country, try to explain to the chinese business man that his new road is two years behind schedule, because of christmas. easter, buglasan, sipon, this day and that day, and also the filipinos need their sleep

the chinese want land land land land...to produce food, most of the their land is polluted the water is the same way, population will go through the roof now they have eased some of the one child policy, here now you must have the biggest population of 40+ women preggers

and they will buy buy buy buy buy all the land they can dont be under any illusion folks, this is a water shed moment........................du30 is drowning and will take all with him

A similar thing is happening in Australia in certain areas, the chinks are buying huge swathes of cattle raising land and turning it into rice, using huge of amounts of irrigation water to grow it. Several years ago there was several news articles on the subject.
For the chinks it's only about the land and supporting its own people back home.
The chinks also have their own way of doing things and if duterte thinks he will make any money out of any deals he may make he needs to think again!

Rodrigo Duterte took a jab, not only at the United States or President Barack Obama, but at the American people themselves, in a speech in front of Chinese businessmen and government officials.

“Americans are loud, sometimes rowdy. Their larynx is not adjusted to civility,” said Duterte on Thursday, October 20, before mimicking an American accent. Duterte tells Chinese: Americans are ‘loud, discourteous’
