I'm not going to disagree with what Wrye said above. I have seen side by side comparisons of the Go pro and equivalent Yi Cam and the gopro was better except in sound and might have not been quite as good in low light. The Yi cam did well though and without a direct side by side comparison many people would think it good enough. When buying Chinese you always need to worry about quality. If the first one you buy is not a reasonably well made item and you have to buy a second one, it probably wasn't such a good deal. I shoot everything with my phone because I'm sure I'm not going to be carrying a separate camera around with me. I'd buy one of the cheap action cams if I decided I wanted to video under water.

It is shooting underwater while snorkeling and mounting to the motorcycle while driving that I have in mind. I used a phone mount while riding a bicycle before and had crazy amount of vibration and phone would go flying if hitting a bump so not even going to try it on the motorcycle. The new GoPro has image stabilization, is there affordable software that would work with an older model GoPro or similar camera?

I know that it can be edited by cropping the video and there must be programs for that. I suspect that OIS wouldn't be enough attached to a motorcycle on anything but the smoothest road and that is why people use a body mount, you soak up the vibration and become part of the system. I know some people use a gimbal when using a gopro just walking and a quick look showed some gimbals available anywhere between $50 and $320 ikan 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer for GoPro FLY-X3-GO B&H Photo. Gopro accessories can be expensive and it adds up quickly, that is why I found the Cherry Mobile hardware impressive. I suspect that by the time you bought that much hardware for a gopro you will have spent as much on hardware as you did on the gopro.

I think I am going to go with the Explorer 2, after accessories I will be about 1/3 the cost of a GoPro5 setup. For stabilization I am going to try the free VirtualDub software with the Deshaker plugin. THANKS!!!

I like that the explorer 2 has on screen touch controls so you don't have to worry about clicking a number of buttons in the proper sequence or connect it to your phone to control it. It should be easy for anyone to use. This is one item they should really test well in the store before you walk out.

I use a GoPro (helmet mounted) and a Sony Action Cam (bike mounted) for motorcycle riding. The GoPro has better video and color than the Sony when video is put side by side on a monitor but for a casual user the difference would hardly be noticeable. Video stabilizing is really not a problem for either camera (regardless if helmet or bike mounted).

Out of the box the GoPro is going to be a bit better for water activities. If you want to go diving the cases that come with the cameras are probably not going to do well. You would need to order a dive casing for both of the cameras separately. The real bonus with the GoPro is how easily accessories/mounts/lenses/filters can be found.

FYI, the Sony action cam can be picked up for around $170-200. I see absolutely no reason to pick up a camera that shoots anything higher than 1080p. A 10 minute video at 4k could be uploaded to YouTube at PI Internet speeds in about....oh, 1 week or so.

Broke my Cherry.... no wait, Chery is broken.... hmmm, anyway I searched from Robinson Mall to Lee Plaza to Pick and Carry to about 15 other stores. Only one store in the Mall had an Explorer but none had an Explorer 2. The Explorer 2's on Lazada are really the first model (easy to tell by 1 front button instead of 2 and a 2.0" screen instead of 2.4")

Anyone have an idea how to find a Cherry Mobile Explorer 2? Was looking forward to saving p18,000 over the GoPro 5

I have dealt with CMKCellphone before and I find them to be reliable. Cherry Mobile Explorer 2
