No doubt. The Philippines is about the absolute worst place a "foodie" could choose to move to...unless that foodie likes to cook for themselves. And i always thought a foodie was a pejorative word, might as well call yourself a "yelper".

Well I figured I could stand to lose the weight. LOL. Actually, prior to leaving I would run into a rare bird who would comment, "Oh I LOVE Filipino Food!!" My mind is on rewind now trying to recall exactly who those people were again and if there were other signs of masochism in our exchange. Ate at "Moon's" yesterday for the second time. I really liked it. Small Pepperoni Pie. Doable. Falls right into one of the tenets I hold dear: "No such thing as bad pie!!!" The Baby Back Rib plate there is a STEAK. Yum. Going to Casablanca today about 2:00. We'll be the 2-tall old guys with the sweet Pinay GF's. Well, TALL should set us apart anyway.....Thanks for moving the thread WRYE. This could be FUN!! Salami!!!

I like filipino food as well...I even eat balut on a regular basis (which is directly related to excess alcohol intake). But even i have my limits on how much garlic, sugar and MSG I can eat.

My definition of "foodie" as it relates to me is "someone who likes food." Far be it from me to discriminate.

I prefer to think of myself as a gourmand. I heartily discriminate! :D

For example, back in Hilo, Hawaii, one of my homes, my friends will tell me that a restaurant has big portions. I'll pointedly ask if the food is any good and they reluctantly admit that the food is mediocre. That's when I discriminate and won't go to that particular restaurant.

Balut? In my 18 years of traveling and living in the Philippines, I've never gotten drunk enough to try it. Yikes!!!!!

I have stayed with Filipino friends and had some great meals, simple traditional Filipino food but prepared with great attention to detail. No Magic Sarap (G) needed.
