After giving up on private schools this year I decided to go public for a few reasons. My 7th. grade daughter came home recently after having an HIV seminar. Things seem to be getting a little better.
Its a start but wonder how well it will actually work. Sex is still such a huge taboo thing here while the boys seek it and the girls giggle about it out of earshot talking to adults or parents is still a huge nono. As far as condoms go most guys I know and myself hate them as they often kill the feeling. Guys here know if she gets pregnant its not his responsibility and he can just ditch her with little chance of things like child support and such. Many of the young girls getting pregnant aren't getting pregnant from their same age boyfriend but the boyfriend who's often 10 years older who doesn't give a d*mn about her or her future but just about scoring a young hottie hopefully virgin, why would he care? The ones with the real power over condoms is the girls because they can deny unless he uses one. However the girls are often so desperate to stay with the guy and show how she *loves* him she'll do anything be there a condom or no. The ones the condom's should be given to is the girls and train them how to put them on. Most the guys will just laugh it off and make jokes. Then when it comes time for sex he forgot, lost, broke it, or threw it away. Of course there are some guys who care about the girls but few I think. I think what encouraged condoms a bit more in other countries was the major risk of child support where the guy is worried on being held financially responsible for the next 18 years but then that made the issue of some women seeing it as an easy paycheck.
I think emphasizing more on the HIV risk and less on unintended pregnancy could help since this can hit both parties equally. Numbers are going up quickly in the Philippines, it's about time something gets done. But then: "She clarified that condom was actually the last resort in dealing with HIV." WTF?
Plan A: Don't have sex until you are married and only have sex for reproduction purposes. Plan B: Ask your partner if they are "really sure" they don't have HIV/AIDS. Plan C: Ask God to protect you. Plan D: Wrap it up. Once Duterte starts to take this problem the plan will be as follows: Step 1: Tell all HIV/AIDS "personalities" to turn themselves in. Step 2: "Extrajudicially" take care of everyone caught pushing HIV/AIDS. Step 3: "Extrajudicially" take care of everyone caught in possession of HIV/AIDS. Because genocide fixes everything.
