Hello guys, if you have time please come and visit Amadeo, Cavite - "The Coffee Capital of the Philippines" and try the exotic Philippine Civet Coffee made from wild civet
Just FYI for all the members here: Here is how this coffee is produced: This animal eats some coffee beans It then "creates" this a while later Then someone sifts through those "nuggets" for the "partially digested" coffee beans to make this Now, I have no problem giving that coffee a try (I've never tried it myself)...but I'm REALLY curious who first thought it would be a good idea to make coffee with those beans. I'm thinking a coffee shop owner was pissed at a customer that sent their coffee back saying it tasted like "sh*t" and thought, "So sorry sir, please try out very 'special' blend of coffee."....and it just happened to taste better than their regular beans.
Maybe good business idea, seen that coffee in cafe 4-500 peso a cup, but that was in Copenhagen. Maybe chicken, parrot, rabbit, cat, snake and other kind of animals sh*t coffe would be great concept lol
I was in Bali 3 weeks ago and went to a place where they produce and market that coffee and they give tours of the process. There is a tasting facility where you pay about 200 pesos for a tiny cup of the civet poop coffee and I gave it a try. Very rich taste, similar to a strong cup of Folgers Colombian brewed coffee. For the price they want for poop coffee I would just stick with Folgers Colombian and make a good strong cup of it. Of course that Colombian is expensive in Dumaguete. I paid 540 for a small container of it in Robinson's a couple months ago.
Considering that you get enough for about 10 pots of coffee for 540 pesos I doubt it would be affordable or profitable for a coffee shop to sell. But maybe.
