    THE REAL POOP!

VA Manila is only required to cover service connected disablities. They will sometimes treat colds, etc but they are only required and funded for sc only.

The Foreign Service Program (FSP) will cover service connected almost anywhere but Guam, Philippines because they have VA facilities. It will also cover items that are not sc if they exacerbate the sc disablility.

So, if you live in the Philippines you do not get the same broad based service as you would in America. Nor can you use the FSP. It is a catch 22 that the government has no desire to change.

Any medical service received in the Philippines is best to get VA approval if you are wanting them to cover. Don't hold your breath.

    Thank-you for this info.

Since I'm 100% P&T and a 20 year retiree, I know I do have Tricare. But as I understand the Tricare thing, you have to pay for everything up-front, get your records and bills translated into English, and then wait for reimbursement of whatever THEY deem/determine is what THEY will pay/reimburse you on what you have paid on the bills.

I haven't done my research on the Tricare piece yet. That's still on my "To Do" list.

So if anyone has any real time skinny on this Tricare piece, I'd be happy to know what your experience has been.

    V/R,

As I understand the VA in Guam, they will cover down on all issues for 100% P&T or 100% UI Vets.

This makes me wonder: Should if ever I am in need of full/complicated care, if I ought to take a short hop to Guam. Medicare, Tricare, and the VA all work in Guam - without exceptions just like in the States.

Wonder if I should arrive there and then be considered a "homeless" Vet by the VA? I'd definitely need a short-term place to stay for the recovery process. Wonder how that piece works? Or IF it works? Eligibility is probably income restricted like in the States and so on.... So just show up at that Guam VA Clinic with little or no money in your pocket and you can get a housing voucher????

Play their game by their rules; they like to deny people's claims based off of a few little technicalities, might as well get a few perks based off a few little technicalities. :sneaky:

Are there any future VA services that will be offered for vets with no disabilities in the PI that you know of, or Guam is still the only hope?

Probably not any time soon. I think we will be lucky if the VA in Manila stays open with all the political nonsense going on with their current president.
