I am also from Oz and I bank with the BPI Bank (Bank of the Philippine Islands) and have had NO Problems in the past Two+ years of being here *touch wood*

If you are on a Pension, you can have Centrelink Direct Deposit your Monthly Payments to your nominated Bank Account here in the Philippines, Centrelink charge no fees like the Third Party companies do who send money from abroad, and your payment is calculated on that day's current exchange rate. They also convert from AUD to PHP for free... Well worth it if you are living on a Benefit.

I cannot really help with the best place to live as I HATE cities with all of the noise, pollution and overpopulation of residents, so I live out in the Bamboo away from prying eyes 25+ KM's from Dumaguete and LOVE IT!

Area will depend on your own preferences and needs, so maybe if you elaborate on exactly what you are looking for; others here will be able to better advise you...

Welcome Aboard and Good Luck with your move! I do NOT regret, nor miss Oz at all with my decision to relocate!

Bacong is a short ride from all that. #1 spot to live in the Dumaguete area IMO. Valencia is terrible! Shouldn't even be considered.

    What is terrible in Valencia?

Bacong and Dauin seems to draw the real estate sharks to them like fleas to a pile of :poop:. Insane lot and house prices in these areas.

I'm wondering which of these four cities will be most viable: Bais, Bayawan, Tanjay or Valencia.:o o:

Everything! Used to be great, now it's terrible. Sad.

Make Valencia great again....for me - everyone move somewhere else.

    What happened there exactly?
I heard lot of stuff about bad working utilities. Is that correct?

    I was being facetious.

However, it seems the utilities really went to sh*t after Sendong in 2011. The electricity was out for 2+ weeks and water was out for about 2 months. My water pressure never fully recovered after that storm. The earthquake in 2013 didn't do the infrastructure - if you want to call it that - any favors either.

Back in Australia we would refer to what Wrye was getting at as; "Taking the p*ss"... hehe

    Urban Dictionary: taking the p*ss
