I'll be in Duma for 3 months and need a scooter does any expat have one I can rent off them please ? Or where's the best place to rent at reasonable price ? I heard after 3 months I can't get a Philipines license unless married virtually is that true ? I was coming back for good if all goes well after I come back to oz and sell up
easier and cheaper to buy one man, they will scorch you to rent for three months from the local out fits
I'll make you an offer right here and now. I have a 1 and a half year old RUSI that I'll rent you. Its in fine shape but RUSI's are cheap. You can buy one new for 35K pesos but then you have to wait forever for the plates and registration.. So my offer is to rent it to you for 5K per month x 3 months (thats 15K in advance) and if it breaks through no fault of yours then I'll fix it or return the unused portion of the rent. Why would I do that? With the 15K I would add some of my own cash and buy a bigger bike. Then when you return the RUSI I would give it to my gf's family. Alternatively, since the motorcycle is about 18 months new and not used much, just give me 26K pesos (that's 25% less than the new price due to depreciation) and its all yours, papers and all, just drive it away and give it to a friend when you're done with it. Here is a pic. Its semi automatic which means you don't need a clutch but you do use the foot pedal to change gears. The cats are optional they can go with the bike or not, up to you
If you rent from a local, by the month, they would want 200 pesos a day with a negotiable discount for a 3 month period so 90 days x 200 a day is 18,000 and they may come down as low as 15K, which is why I offered mine for that price in the above post.
I appreciate that you gave my offer some thought. I would be curious as to the dates you wanted to rent it for but I can tell you that 9K is too low as I have to think of wear and tear and depreciation and the possibility that you will get in an accident and its a total write off to me . . . so there is some wiggle room but not that low. Can you send me a private message with the exact dates you need it and we can discuss it further?
The buy. sell option is a good idea. If the new owner decides to come back they will already have a scooter. If they choose to sell at 17,000 they can find a buyer in a heartbeat.
Another perk of renting from Dave is that the registration is most likely up-to-date and you don't have to worry about having to beat feet after the bike gets impounded when you drive through a checkpoint. Unless it isn't registered properly.....in which case you can negotiate the rental price down quite a bit. Just sayin'.
