    I can see how you may think that, because many members of this forum are expats.

    As the one to start the poll it was my intention to include all members of the forum whether they are new, long term, expat, balikbayan, locals or still living in some other country. The qualifying part is whether you actually bought some land or a condo or a house in or around Dumaguete at any time.

    Thus your contribution is not only welcome, but appreciated, thank you.

    I have observed that the price goes up not only when an expat is involved but also OFW and those residing abroad especially buying a land outside the Filipino's turf like neighboring towns in cases where a real estate agent isn't used. Filipinos are careful with ancestral relationship so it might help to ask the help of the old folks to negotiate.

    No option for she owned it already. As the only surviving child when her Dad died it all passed to her...

    So I guess I have never had to negotiate this thorny obstacle. We have bought extra land to site our businesses on. The relative-mafia have featured largely in those transactions with the legal and binding/title searches being done by local attorneys she knows and trusts. The process was fairly smooth and painless if a little long winded. At least the rellies alllowed us to get underway with development whilst the ink was drying.

    If there is any advice I could give I would lean toward the family network (within reason) rather than some agency purpose built to extract a %. Just my experience here.

    It wasn't for expats or people who purchased homes in NO only. At least there was no indication of that in the poll or op. :wink:

    okay was writing my reply when Wifey looked over shoulder... Delete Delete Delete! :banghead:

    OKAY! I will say this;
    Believe NOTHING You are told!!
    CHECK with the DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) and engage a Private Attorney who deals in LAND matters!

    Just; check, Check CHECK and QAUDRUPLE CHECK!

    Long story short, we will have something like an added 450,000php in charges and fees etc that we did not plan on to sort out the mess we untangled in our search to find out the truth in what we were told. We listened, we believed, we trusted... WE are slowly fixing things and *touch wood* will sort through this mess and see it to the end...

    I guess I was reading between lines that aren't there? :hilarious: It was under Dumaguete thread and this is DI and also the first was "wife did it all" which makes me jump into a conclusion of expats with gf/wife. :bonkers:

    The reason that was the first response is that many of my friends here are expats who did it that way. They seem to like the easy way and don't want the stress so they got their wife to do everything. Since those guys like "easy" I made it easy for them to participate.

    BUT, hopefully their wives are members too and they will also respond with the details of how they did it :biggrin:

    Well the title does mention "Dumaguete and Area" and the forum is for Dumaguete info so its unlikely we are all interested in people's purchases in Manila or New York but anywhere reasonably close to Dumaguete would be good info.
