A Scottish man has been shot during a robbery hours before he was due to get married in the Philippines.

Tarek Naggar, 44, was outside a shop in Cebu City when three men demanded he hand over his wallet.

When he refused to give it up, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest.

Mr Naggar, who is from Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire, has undergone surgery and remains seriously ill in hospital.

The joiner, who recently had been working in Sweden, was due to get married this weekend to his fiancée Angie, who is from the Philippines.

He was standing outside a convenience store in her home city of Cebu in the early hours of Thursday when a motor scooter with three men clinging to it pulled up.

I wonder if they still shoot you even if you don't have a wallet. I'm sure I'll be digging my pockets for the cash they want.

Hmmm yes I take your point on that but as usual to me and my suspicious mind, there will be more to this than meets the Eye I am sure & I doubt there will be any updates. My wife would never know what is in my wallet unless she had been through it

What was his exact words before he was shot?
I said, "here you go", as I stood there trying to look like ignorant, handed my purse and they went without hurting me. I had a few seconds of emotional preparation though because my companion who sensed it warned me. The ATM cards only worked in Japan so I didn't care. Besides, I only had P200 in the wallet. I kind of understand the feeling without at wallet with you. It is very unbecoming to not carry one (in the place where I live now) but after that incident, I had to bear the "inadequacy" everytime I visit home.

I normally never carry any money with me when I go out, my Wife carries a little, and each time I am accosted for pesos I am not lying when I say I do not have any and tell them my Wife holds my money. (the usual 'wala pera' line) But I am sure if I met someone who was desperate, that line just wouldn't cut it with them, as when I tell relatives here I do not have any money on me to buy Beer etc they laugh at me and tell me they know I am rich simply because I am a foreigner, sooo.... :speechless:

This guy also had no Travel-Health Insurance, that was one of the first things I did when I started planning my first trip here, CRAZY to come here with no Medical Insurance plan and this points out exactly why you should take out Medical-Health Insurance should the worst happen, which for this guy, did! :o o:
