It seems you should not drop a selfie stick onto the face of a cell phone. Cracked display on 6 month old Samsung J2 Prime. Phone still works fine, just has a black area on the screen so I can't read or know what I am selecting.

1)Is screen replacement a reliable option?
2)What is cost of screen replacement vs having to buy new?
3)Where is 'the guy' in Duma to go get the screen replaced?
4)How long does it take/do I have to factory reset the phone so 'he' can't get my data?

You can get screen replacements at Tops and Bottoms
Behind the Old Cangs (New mcDonald's) in the parking Area there is a shed on the left that has a Guy who is pretty good at Fixing things

    1) In principle yes (if nothing else is broken)
    2) If I recall well the J2 Prime is a cheapish model, around 5000 peso? If that's correct I wouldn't spend more than 2000 to get it fixed.
    4) no idea / yes

My daughter had her iPhone 6 screen changed twice already that's why she's reluctant to spend more for the third replacement just so she can give it to a relative there. How much does it cost in Duma? She says it's better to buy a second hand older model than have it repaired in our area. There's no way the recipient pays for it btw. Annoying but nothing I can do.

It will vary depending on what parts are needed and who is doing the work but as soon as you say IPhone the price goes up. May I suggest you get the parts on Lazada and try to do it yourself. Maybe here For White IPhone 6 LCD Display with Touch Screen Digitizer

Many of these phone repair shops are scam artists. I recently had a phone taken to a shop in the mall (Galion) and they said they had to order the screen online and it would cost P5000+. Checking the price on an online mobile parts store I buy from shows the screen costing P1500. Even worse is that the problem isn't the screen and they refuse to listen to what I told them was won't with it. (I've made the repair myself in the past.) Now they don't want to give the phone back until the P5k is paid.

Search you tube and see if you are up to replacing yourself. It seems that anytime you start having heat adhesive to separate parts it can get a bit dicey.
