Hi folks, looking for some info/help. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3V, had it about 15 months. Just in the last week I'm getting bombarded (they occur about every 5 minutes) with ads that open in a new page, regardless of what else I'm doing. They are, however, easy to close. The ads are for (so they say) upgrades, security upgrades, games, free Iphones, etc etc. Some come direct from Google Store. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem, and can anyone suggest a fix?
My first question is: Did you buy it from a Samsung dealer or did you buy it at Unitop where all the Samsung Tabs are Chinese knock offs?
aT AN O Some outfit at the Mall, but I've had it over a year, no probs; this started in the last week
No, Wrye, nothing except Amazon Kindle. Can I take it to some ol' place and have it de-maled, do you think? By the way, when I wake it from sleep, it now often tries to open in Google Play.
I used to buy Samsung tabs from local vendors and found most started to give me problems after a year of use because they are substandard products. I could suggest, if you want to know if its real, that you look for the Serial number at the box and try to register it at the Samsung website. If it is accepted, it is the real one. If it is real then you can take it to a Samsung repair depot and have them reset to factory specs.
I looked at at NEW (Supposedly genuine) Samsung Tablet at the Samsung Shop around 6 months ago at the Robinson's Mall for my Wife and it was a tad over 20,000 pesos Still thinking about it but I think I had better double check on the pricing elsewhere...
I'm sure there is more on the device than the Kindle app after a year, especially if a Filipina or child has touched the device. Not sure what version of Android you are using but you can go to Settings>Apps>Installed Apps and see if there is anything suspicious on there. (Note: I'm on Android 8.0 so not sure on exact setting locations for older versions anymore. Mine calls the setting "Apps and Notifications" now.) If all you use it for is reading then I would backup photos and anything else you want to save from the device (books/messages/notes) to a computer and then do a factory reset. That will get rid of anything you unintentionally downloaded that might be causing problems.
BTW. The factory reset option is in a Settings menu towards the bottom of the settings options. Probably in the "System" menu. Edit; just remembered that Samsung and other brand name manufacturers sometimes change up the settings menu a bit. You might have to select "All settings", "more options" or something like that to see the full Android settings menu.
