Angeles: too much corruption and too many sexpats and sextourists.
Subic: depends if you mean Subic town or the Subic Bay Freeport Zone SBFZ. These are two complete different things. Subic town is OK. SBFZ is decent but completely overprized. And not even Pinoys can own lots in that area due a lease and lease back contract lying on the complete SBFZ area. For living in SBFZ you should have at least US$ 3500.- per month available or very big savings.
Olongapo: it depends where you live in Olongapo. Some barangays like Gordon Heights are very nice to live. Stays on my list.
Baguio: wondering what is no so good there? Probably overpricing and mostly insane real estate prices. I put it back to third rank due the latter.
Manila: totally overcrowded and insane traffic. Only for expat works.
Cebu: similar to Manila but a bit lesser degree.
Tagbilaran and Panglao: never evaluated. Tagbilaran seems to be in a similar or even worse condition than Dumaguete in the case of traffic. About Panglao I heard that it is somewhat overcrowded.
Palawan is very nice. What is wrong with it? There are many lovely spots for living. I'm still evaluating it.

Yeah, have a chat or conversation with Wrye83 about Dumaguete. Even my wife which is a relative of Negros Oriental dislikes Dumaguete more snd more. Interesting is the variant living uphill in Valencia and do your activities in Dumaguete.

Agree about most what you say... Palawan is a nice place... but just didn't seem it was for me... Baguio is too isolated and in town the diesel fumes are siffling.
I will have a look at Davao when I come latter in the month as well...
The think I liked about Duma is there are a whole lot of options and places nearby.. and Valencia sas you say I think is a good idea.

One factor in this is, of course, that the best places are on the expensive end of the spectrum and the cheap places are where you would usually not want to live! The secret is to find the next 'best place' and buy real estate before it becomes too expensive. There is often a cyclical process where good places perish because of their success and poorer places are lifted up by people recognising they have something to offer (e.g very good beaches) but are relatively low cost. That may mean being isolated for a while, with poor transport links until such time as the area becomes upgraded - perhaps not a valid option for we elderly!

Port Barton (municipality San Vicente, Palawan) is a scenic place I fear will be overrun in few years. Visit it as fast as possible before it becomes a Puerto Galera II or Boracay II. The real estate prices are already starting to explode in that area.

Maybe a bit small for me... I did El Nido twice and Puerto princessa as well... lots of great places...and easy for me.. 3.5 hrs and I'm in Phil's... and Philippine airlines fly direct Bangkok to Cebu as well now.
