I didn't think I was saying it was needed. Filipinos are free to have whatever style of government they want.
Not being one to follow Politics at any level, it did somewhat spark my interest with mention of Federalism here. Just wondering if that would be a step forwards or Business as usual?
Do you really think anything will change when the same corrupt political clans are calling the shots? Doesn't matter what type of government they have if they keep voting in the same people.
That is what I mean "Business as usual"... Makes you wonder if they will ever sort out this mess. Looking at Australian Politics they are just learning the ropes of corruption and ignorance. Maybe it is just a Political trait that will never get better and only get worse over time. While they remain unaccountable there will never be any improvement, which is why I stopped following Politics and elected not to vote as soon as I flew out of the country!
Sounds like a bit of chicken and the egg. Being accused and being convicted are two different things. You say alleged, so I assume that he wasn't convicted at the time of his reelection in 2013. It gives him plausible deniability, which along with a questionable electorate is more than enough to get him reelected. It seems like the condonation doctrine ought to only apply people convicted of a crimes and then reelected, not to absolve politicians of accusations and unknown crimes. There is essentially no reason to file charges against any official whose crimes occurred prior to being elected. Let's take this a step farther, what if a business man has some illegal dealings, if he was to get elected would all those crimes be forgiven?
