I heard there is a new upscale coffee shop going up next to Bo’s on the blvd. Has anyone been to a Tom N Tom in Cebu or Bacolod? Pictures show bagels and deserts.
Been the one in Bacolod, way.over priced, maybe different in Dumaguete, was even higher than Starbucks
great, exactly what I am waiting for. another overpriced coffee shop and in Dumaguete's prime location, the noisy boulevard. hope they will open also a Starbucks here; conveniently next to Tom's and Bo's...
Been to one in Cebu City was very happy with the pot of tea and choice of pastries would go again. Had good wifi too. This branch was near a college and was full of students so maybe not too pricey but can't remember what I paid. Overall impression was very good an alternative to Bo's and Starbucks. OzeMike
Was at one in Cebu. On Mactan isle. Had a very Starbucks feel to it, only more spacious. As usual, I'm confused why it's so close to another coffee shop. I however do understand why it's close to the school!
Why Do Certain Retail Stores Cluster Together? TLDR: Central Place Theory....how far people are willing to travel for a given product. This is why car dealerships and usually next to other car dealerships, large department stores next to other large department stores (Walmart - Target), vendors on a beach, etc.
In the Philippines are even areas with similar shopping malls near to each other. Ex: Several Gaisano malls in Tagum City or two in Toril (Davao City). And many shops inside are from the same brand (ex: Jollibee). One benefit have this system. If something is not available in one mall just check the next one.
Only did starb$$ks in california five times in one decade, every other time was local california company. At least Bo's and Tom's are Filipino owned (i think), both with "xxxccino's" for iced coffee. Problem with Tom's is they don't allow dogs on the front sitting area (see pic to left)...oh well, might try it when the whole pack isn't in the car...
Starbucks is a franchise. Franchises in the Philippines must be owned 100% by a Filipino. None of that 60/40 crap. Also, corporations cannot purchase franchises....so no sneaking around the rule. Non-franchise coffee shops, such as Tom-N-Tom's, can actually be partially owned by foreigners. So if you want to go with a 100% Filipino owned shop your best bet is to go to a large franchise. Just sayin'.
We tried Tom and Tom's last night the wife had a mango smoothly it was not made with real mango a bit disappointed considering the price she complained and they charged it for a different drink I may try them again and give them a second chance. I think they are just a second rate Starbucks for me.
