That may be so but at least Cambodia has plans to lower their rates. (And, judging from what you have posted, are actually following through with it.)
Electricity usage-based plan to lower power rates

Cambodia also still don't have electricity in every province/town yet (from what I'm reading). Cambodia still has an opportunity to get their grid right, and then properly maintain it...though I'm not saying that will happen there. The Philippines has neglected theirs for far too long now. I don't think anything short of bulldozing the entire "infrastructure" (if you can even call it that) and starting from scratch will work for the Philippines.

I also believe that the numbers the DOE is reporting are averages. Which electrical monopoly you are subject to in the Philippines will determine the price you pay. I'm sure the same is true in Cambodia. When I was in Cambodia (Siem Reap) I was thinking that there was no way the hotel could be turning any profit if the rates were the same as the Philippines and the average guest used as much electricity as I did.

I don't think the legal regional monopolies in the Philippines (such as NORECO) are planning on allowing that to happen any time soon. They have already won legal battles to strip municipalities of their mineral/electrical generation rights. The power generation and supply monopoly's greed is raping the poor and slowing economic growth in the country.

    Slightly off topic:
I'll be going to Georgia in April. I just found out an American can stay in Georgia without a visa for 365 days! Back on topic: this thread made me wonder......

Even on the highest tier of consumption you are only paying 9.1 cents/kWh in Tbilisi. It is looking like it may be an option for me.

    Going back off-topic:
Hey Google. How much does a beer cost in Tbilisi?
    2.50 GEL = 1.01 USD

Google, how much is rent in Tbilisi?
    1 bedroom city center = 770 GEL = 312 USD
    1 bedroom outside city center= 460 GEL = 190 USD

Ok. Now, what do Georgian(sp?) women look like? Google?

All necessary research complete. Anyone interested in buying a 1000cc Honda Fireblade and a 650cc BMW xChallenge? Pay cash upfront for both of them and you get all of my household items thrown in for free. lol

Fair enough. And, they have. However, when I lived in Carcar, the last place I rented prior to leaving Cebu, had a per kWh rate (Piso equivalent) of $.10¢ US. This was in January, 2012.

So, while I cannot argue that Cambodia has been (slowly) lowering the rate of power, Cambodia is still higher than what the Philippines DOE was stating.

BTW, I'm from Georgia. I didn't know we needed a visa to go back home.

I have no idea what the rate actually is in Valencia. I don't ask questions or ever look at the bill unless it starts to get around P2500-3000. But I remember when I first moved there in 2010ish I was paying about P1k-1.2k/month. Now it is usually around 2.3k/month.

(Note: I do not use air-conditioning at all. That is just a fan, a fridge and a TV, plus some hot showers whenever the SO tells me I am starting to stink.)

I WISH! :jawdrop: Ours is always 2000+ after the Family pay their share... :o o:
Cannot wait to get our own place as I believe we are subsidising the Family here to their advantage, even though they supposedly pay more than their fair share of the Bill... :shifty:
