Today's opium and heroin crisis that began many years ago probably made many parents "brain dead" because, according to CDC's Measles Cases and Outbreaks report, from January 1 to February 24, 2018, 13 people from 7 states (Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Texas) were reported to have measles. In 2017, 118 people from 15 states and the District of Columbia were reported to have measles. In 2016, 86 people from 19 states were reported to have measles. In 2015, 188 people from 24 states and the District of Columbia were reported to have measles. In 2014, the United States experienced a record number of measles cases, with 667 cases from 27 states reported. No wonder children are increasingly being entered into foster care. It is a sad state of affairs.

You are confusing the USA with Philippines. States in the U.S. mandate immunization. They are not voluntary. Some vaccinations are required before a child may attend school. Others are given in school. Almost all children are required to go to school. There are exceptions, as Wrye noted, and those exceptions are more likely to get measles if the program is voluntary and left to the parents to take their kids to the barangay health clinic on a certain day of the month and line up all day.

It is suggested that Philippines learn from other cultures rather than defend their "middle ages" vaccination policies. But it is well known that filipinos prefer a government run like hell by Filipinos to a government run like heaven by Americans.

ALL children should be immunised! I have known idiots back in Australia who were against it, my first wife included. A couple of her friends lost their babies when they fell ill. (They tried telling other's it was Cot Death - BS!) My 1st born Son contracted Whooping Cough, one of the most terrible things I have witnessed watching a child turning blue coughing until he left a trail of saliva from his lips to the floor before passing out from lack of oxygen! I actually made a point of taking my children to the Doctor for their immunizations after that despite my stupid ex squealing like a stuck Pig! Only STUPID people (IMHO) believe all the hype about why they should not get their kids immunized due to idiotic Government conspiracies or other nonsense crap fed to them! :banghead:

The scar on arm, are you referring to the little scar at the top of the arm? This is from the BCG shot for tuberculosis.

If you are talking about the scar on the top of your arm, like in the image below, I am sure you find it is a Smallpox Vaccine Scar...

Yes my son just recently had this shot, which is the BCG immunisation for tuberculosis. It leaves a small scaring at the top of the arm.

All infants between 0-2 weeks get the normal Heb B immunisation plus a BCG immunisation against tuberculosis, which is the one that gives the scaring at the top of the arm. [IMG]

I had my TB Shot in Grade 8 in High School. (1974) From memory they give a small multiple shot to the forearm then a week later look to see if there is a reaction. Some smart @ss kid told us if there are no red dots you will get the needle. I did not have any red spots on my arm, so I spat on the spot and rubbed it until it turned red... Turned out the basturd lied and I had to get the bloody needle! No Scar on my arm, but the kid that went before me, his shot blew up into a giant 1"round blister that burst leaking fluid everywhere with him screaming the school down! (Made me very nervous being next inline!) I BET he is sporting a scar today!

Oh, but there was no confusion.

My point that was missed is that while it is presumed that compulsory vaccination did start earlier in the USA (by school state law since 1963), outbreak statistics continue to indicate that many children were not vaccinated in the past and until now, as shown by CDC's Measles Cases and Outbreaks report. There were questions of constitutionality, exemptions for people with compromised immune systems or allergies to the components used in vaccinations, and parental objections citing personal, conscientious, religious or philosophical justifications that could not be ignored in a strong democracy. According to Wikipedia, "As of 2015, 47 states allow religious exemptions, with some states requiring proof of religious membership. Mississippi, West Virginia and California do not permit religious exemptions. 15 states allow personal or philosophical opposition to vaccination."

With the above circumstances at the back of my mind, I surmised that, among expat retirees living in Negros Oriental or elsewhere in Philippines, there could be unvaccinated seniors 64 year old and above who could use the reminder that "Measles is a highly contagious viral infection transmitted through secretions when people come in contact with those infected with the virus, and therefore it is important for people to pay attention to hygiene and to avoid crowded places. Washing of hands regularly can also be a preventive measure against contracting measles" because they are no longer eligible for adult vaccination.

Your suggestion is well appreciated but I am pleased to declare that, as for Philippines, mandatory immunization by law started in 2012 after RA 10152 was approved on June 21, 2011. Under Section 3 thereof, mandatory basic immunization for all infants and children provided covers the following vaccine-preventable diseases: (a) Tuberculosis; (b) Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis; (c) Poliomyelitis; (d) Measles; (e) Mumps; (f) Rubella or German measles; (g) Hepatitis-B; (h) H. Influenza type B (HIB); and (i) Such other types as may be determined by the Secretary of Health in a department circular. The mandatory basic immunization s to be given for free at any government hospital or health center to infants and children up to five (5) years of age.

That is not the vaccine. It tests to see if you have TB. They inject a small amount of....something....under your skin and it bulges out a little for an hour or two. You are supposed to have it checked a couple days later to see if there was a reaction. If there is a reaction you may have TB (there are false positives). I have to get that test done every time I come out on a new contract.

I wasn't aware that there was a TB vaccine. Not sure why the government doesn't make us get that one. We are much more likely to contract that than run across any small pox or anthrax.
