I'm wondering if all the tourists that were planning trips to Boracay will instead head to other places like Bohol or Palawan or just cancel their trips.

I guess we will see where the cancelled caticlan flights will be rescheduled.

I guess Palawan will be a big winner, with two airports in Puerto and El Nido airport being fully used.

(if they will use / need the old ppc)

Hopefully not to many will come here...

It does raise some concerns and I'll admit I haven't followed the news much on it to know much about the Chinese casino's. He should be looking at reforestation and fixing the beach. The Chinese need to be kicked to the curb in the Philippines as well and its insane how they manage to own so much including land without anyone in power caring while average foreigners can't even own 150sqm for their own personal house.

As far as the legality I'd assume the Island is considered a business district and as that train of thought he would have authority especially if he cites serious environmental effects. But yes a lot of business's including all these travel agencies will take a serious hit. However I personally wouldn't mind seeing about 75% of the travel agencies shutting down as we really don't need one for every corner. (of course they would just be replace by cell shops that we have 3 for every block of road at bare minimum).

Shut down the entire Philippines though for a cleanup sounds interesting though. What happens to all current expats though? We're all booted out? Honestly I wouldn't mind a valid excuse to relocate to Thailand or some such quickly but can't get the lady to pack up so easy hehe.

There is a third airport in San Vicente getting fully operational this year. This is why I fear the overcrowding and losing the scenic and pristine view of Port Barton.

If somebody missed it, the news report also stated, that Duterte has inserted a disaster fund for those who have losses of income due to the closure, so no one needs to suffer
From all promises he made, until now he completed lots of them by the letter

"Master plan? I have no master plan." - Duterte

As I try to translate from bureaucratic gobbledygook to plain English; Does this mean that all the "soon to have no source of income" businesses can lay-off or furlough their employees, who will then be eligible to collect minimum wage from the DOLE?

So who gets all this Calamity fund money?

2,010 kilos of waste collected in Sumilon Island in 4 hours Cebu -
During the cleaning of Sumilon Island which was started on Tuesday,
    - About 100 volunteers had collected in a seven-hectare section around the sandbar and in the mangroves, plastic bottles, coffee, shampoo and candy wrappers, as well as various other plastic items.
The cleaning and renovation of the island will last until 16 April. The Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort that manages the island is unaffected by the closure. KR 11

Sounds like meaningless noise coming out of politician's cock-holsters to me. No guarantees or promises made by the sh*t-stain politicians.

Until something legally binding is written down and passed by the legislative or executive branch then nobody should listen to a d*mn thing they say.

Seems the local cops think they will come here!
Negros Oriental cops prep for expected tourist surge due to Boracay closure
DUMAGUETE CITY — Negros Oriental's police force is preparing for an expected increase in tourist arrivals to the province when Boracay Island closes for a six-month rehabilitation period starting on April 26.

All 25 police chiefs from all over the province gathered in this city Wednesday to discuss their preparations at a meeting led by Governor Roel Degamo and Police Provincial Director Edwin Portento.

"Thriving 'yung tourism sa province and we need to take care of that. I expect full cooperation from all of you," Portento told the police chiefs.

Police visibility is set to be heightened in cities and towns where there are well-known tourist attractions, such as Dauin, Dumaguete City, Manjuyod, Sibulan, and Bais City.
