Anyone know a place to fix led computer monitors. I'm thinking the backlight is out needing an led change. It's an LG brand but well past it's warranty. Unsure if there is a lg service center still in dumaguete but it could be any repair shop that preferably wouldn't take weeks.

I recommend Sonex, which is a small place (easily missed) along the north highway, opposite the Caltex on the corner of Dr V Locsin St. You will need to be patient and you may need to order the parts yourself (once identified) but he is very knowledgeable and trustworthy.

Well my monitor is just dead. I thought was just an led but the electronic board is toast and as I brought the monitor from the US of course no parts available here even though they would likely be close to what the monitor cost me. Now I need to find someplace to get a new 27" computer monitor but no place in Dumaguete has such and they just try and recommend a 27" TV (to low of resolution and refresh rate for me). It appears getting such is a real pain outside of Cebu/Manila/Davao and the sick thing is I could find a suitable monitor for $150 in the US but here it will cost me double that if not more for the same or slightly lesser quality....

computer monitor 27 - Buy computer monitor 27 at Best Price in Philippines | www.lazada.com.ph

Samsung Curved 27" LC27F390FHE Full HD Curved LED Monitor (Black) with 3 Years Warranty | Lazada PH

    $270 USD

Basically the same model for comparison to Amazon prices:

You would be looking at $80 for shipping and another $80 for Customs/Import fees. The Lazada price isn't so bad by comparison.

They tax electronics heavily in the Philippines. You are pretty much stuck paying higher prices. Even if you tried to bring it back on a plane you will have to pay for the luggage and risk getting caught in Customs and paying the fees.

Paying customs? When bringing an electronic item into the country, in your suitcase, as a tourist? First I have heard of that. Perhaps if it is brand new, in the box, and they suspected you were selling it here then you would have to pay, but tourists can bring their personal stuff tax free on the assumption that they are taking it back out of the country with them when they leave.

(This is the way it is worded at one of the Philippine embassies but I am sure that each embassy will tell you something similar. It is one of the perks of being a tourist.)

Anyway, bottom line is if you buy it in the US and bring it here, or have a friend bring it, make sure the box is opened so it looks used.

If it is in the original packaging or it looks like it is new they can make you pay duty (or a bribe) to bring it in. They tried getting me with some golf clubs I brought in (still had price tags on them). They were asking me if I was planning on selling them. Luckily the two Customs agents had absolutely no idea about anything golf related as all the clubs I brought in were drivers....and were, obviously, going to be sold at a significant markup.

And who gets to "interpret" if it is a "personal effect"? Customs agents. That agency has historically been one of the most corrupt agencies in the Philippines. They can make your life very hard until you grease the wheels.

Yeah. That's the best bet. But how much is a long is the wait, trouble and/or calling in a favor worth to someone? And how many people would be willing to hand carry a 27" monitor through a bunch of airports? You would have to pay me for that amount of extra work (and I would pay anyone for their trouble for doing it for me). Ends up being cheaper and/or less trouble to just order it from Lazada or Alibaba.
