There will be another total Lunar eclipse visible from Dumaguete on the morning of Saturday, July 28. Totality begins at 3:30am and lasts till the Moon sets. At 3:30 am it will be 28deg above the Western horizon, so it will be visible above Mt. Talinis from Dumageute. Great photo op! Mars, very bright because its near opposition, will be just left of the eclipsed moon. Wow! The down side is that this will be rainy season. Hopefully the clouds will clear at some point so you can witness this cool apparition. The next total Lunar eclipse will not occur for another few years! They are indeed a great group of kids. Classmates of my working student from NORSU. It was actually the first time they ever saw the Moon and stars thru a telescope. I hope I inspired them! The lights from Dumaguete will not interfere with the apparition. They may actually enhance it in photos! But probably the road between Dumaguete and Bacong will offer the best views. Wherever you can get a good view of Mt. Talinis. Just pray for clear skies!
Actually, this will look spectacular from Manila, with all the light and air pollution! I was even thinking about going there for the event. What a great photo that would make from the top of some of those rooftop restaurants! But they would be closed at that time and I would not be allowed access! I'm sure the Astronomy club in Manila will hold an event, but I no longer can suffer the traffic there. I'm getting too old for those shenanigans. So, it will be my terrace and a bottle of Johnny Walker.

That's very cool! I lived in Bend, Oregon before I moved to the Philippines 12 years ago. I could have experienced that eclipse from my backyard. Such is life. But at least I can see the Southern Cross now!
I have family there and in Eugene. Pretty nice place and all the people I ran across there were very friendly and laid back.
