When i got here in 2011 there was always a parking space at the mall as was also easy to park in the city or boulavard, not so now. The road from bacong to valencia was still a barangay road and mostly unpaved and quiet,it was even hard to get a trike. Again different now.
The expansion or the city and surrounding areas is happening at great speed and green areas are being lost every day here. A great shame

I think road infrastructure is a difficult one to "keep up with" as it often demands large tracts of land already owned and/or occupied. I think it would be great to see the Boulevard entirely traffic free but how do you get traffic around it? Well, maybe by building a by-pass out at sea but that is costly and would ruin the view. I can't see anything within the downtown area as possible because it is already choked with traffic.

Reading posts from those who lived here a long time gives a real view to newcomers of what this area was like (e.g barangay road to Valencia) and how much it has changed in a relatively short period of time. Extrapolate that to another 10 or 20 years and will it still be a 'haven'.

Plans for keeping up the infrastructure..........wishful thinking, I guess.

The continued nationalistic anti/foreigner sentiment will do much to reduce future demand and limit the growth of foreign devils

It has to be someone's fault. Foreigners tend to be the go to answer.

This happens everywhere in other places in the Philippines (Cebu, Baguio, Siargao, Bohol). Also, any country (France, Italy, Spain... US I cannot comment too much), you would have the same experience (and comment). So that is how it goes - traffic and population is outgrowing infrastructure, specially in countries where public transport was (or is) not well developed in the first place (and if you have a "baby making machine" country). You cannot do anything about it if you want to live in an urban area (or close to it)

Have people forgotten the millions of Filipinos fleeing abroad to work?

I think the real culprit is the burgeoning middle class.

I dont know where you had that ecperiences here in the Philippines?
My experiences are exactly the opposite!
Only a lot of foereigners behave respectless, arrogant and even in a kind of racism here in Dumaguete!
Espacially they are members of a nation, thinking beeing the biggest in the world - without any reason!:bonkers:
