I have never been to a Jollibee but thought you all might want to know what a bargain is. In Manhattan they get $7.49 USD, 397 PHP, for the 2 piece chicken with one side and a drink. This is a new video of a visit.

Roughly the same at the Jollibees in Dubai and Singapore. They tend to charge whatever the local competitive rates are.

Well they can't pay their labor $7 a day and claim to be a good employer over there for doing that.

They also have two other locations in the vicinity. The original NY area store in Queens, and one in Jersey City, right across the Hudson River.

Every "icon" should be experienced at least once, like mcD or starbucks, just so you can compare it to real food and real coffee. One serving of plastic will not kill you..

The point of the post was to compare price not food. Believe it or not, we have Taco Bells here in Mexico.

The minimum wage in New York is currently $10.40/hour and will be raised to $11.10/hour this December.

I believe the minimum wage in Dumaguete (if they are are class C city) is P323/day (or P338 if there are more than 10 employees) for non-agriculture work.
    That's $6.14/day (or $6.42/day with 10+ employees). For a 10 hour work day that's around $0.62/hour (or $0.64/hour).

New York City workers cost at least 1,525% more than Filipino workers do. The rent in Manhattan is likely much higher than that in Dumaguete as well (No way of knowing what the actual lease costs are but I'm certain it is higher).

Manhattan Jollibee 2 piece with side/drink is $7.50
    Dumaguete Jollibee 2 piece with side/drink is P185 ($3.50)
(I'm not counting rice as a side. Mashed potatoes or corn are considered sides in the Philippines.)

    That's only a 114.29% increase in price.

What surprises me is how they are keeping the prices so dang low in Manhattan.
(I imagine it has something to do with electricity, food and logistical costs being much cheaper in the US.)

And just for comparison (all USD prices):
Singapore Jollibee 2 piece with side/drink is $7.00
Dubai Jollibee 2 piece with drink (no side option seen on menu) $6.00
Hong Kong Jollibee 2 piece with side/drink is $4.34
Saudi Arabia Jollibee 2 piece with side/drink is $3.76
(Interesting note about the Saudi sides: sides are fries and a hamburger bun...just the bun. :o o:)

So...my question is: Why is Jollibee in the Philippines so dang expensive?

A worker in the Philippines Jollibee would have to work about 5 hours to buy a 2 piece with a side/drink while a New York Jollibee worker would only have to work about 45 minutes to buy one. (I put WAY too much time into this post!)

    Fast food, still convenient.

People still eat hamburgers at McD's in places like Texas (most cattle) and South Dakota (one of the highest cattle to people ratios.)

Unfortunately, McD's probably has the best beef in Dumaguete (excluding places which import beef from outside the Philippines as a special option which isn't always available on the menu.)
