You should have a street name and there *should* be a lot number assigned not that such is really known or matters besides street name or subdivision name if there is one. Look at your electric and water bills to get what info you can.

However the key like said above is giving a cell number for the delivery guy's purpose and be well prepared how to explain how to get to your place from landmarks. Another thing is while it sounds stupid and crazy to just paint a number on your gate and assign yourself your own number it fits with how things are done here. Just try and do it sensibly as if your the 5th house down don't try and number yourself #1. Its more of a marker for the delivery guys.

Lastly keep in mind its the Philippines. With how difficult finding residences can be here we would think all of these collection guys or those checking for credit from whatever motor (or whatever dealer) they DO know how to find you.

Don’t. Haters will call it the “Dud Street.” Can’t have that.

Addresses seem to be a combination of area and landmarks. Our house address (that I send LBC boxes to from Korea or anything the wife happens to order in country) is the National highway, City, Barangay and then a landmark (lumber yard). If anyone can't get ahold the wife on her cell, then they just ask the lumber yard and they are pointed in the right direction. Odd but it seems to work. The electric company does deliver our monthly bill to the little PO box I put on the house so they obviously know where our house is.

When we built our house we were one of the first ones and with my lack of patience we installed a couple utility poles to get electric from our transformer to the house as well as internet and some other improvements; so I like the idea of putting up some road signs. I doubt anyone would question it and I could name things the way I see fit...need to think about that a bit.

Location, location, location....Make sure you can give explicit directions off main streets and then landmarks. They find their way.

I swear at least some Filipino delivery people are psychic when it comes to finding you. I lived on the standard Philippines "unnamed road" in Liptong, Valencia, for over to years and, even when they had no directions, Robinson managed to drive right on the compound and deliver a refirigerator. Not even a phone call. For two years Smart delivered a monthly statement to the correct gate (of two possibilities) of a postpaid SmartBro bill. Now, I live in Bong-ao, Valencia, and that SmartBro bill followed me here, to the exact unit, even with the Liptong address on the envelope. The delivery guy just walked up and handed it to me asking if this is a new address and not Liptong anymore. Even my old landlord doesn't know exactly where I moved, so who told this guy to come look in another barangay 2 1/2 km from the old place?

At least I am on a named road now, anyway!
