If so, then she needs to be asked where did she get her attitude from. The very best doctors would be happy to discuss with their patients and family the need for treatment of any specific type. Perhaps those who fear need to hide.

I had the same feeling about Handoc at Silliman. It will be for others to judge for themselves.

It seems like taking appointments is a huge benefit to me as opposed to lining up and crossing your fingers. Is there some logical reason why many doctors in the Philippines don't use the appointment system. What if you are getting a follow up appointment and you don't beat the crowd, so you miss your follow up? Is it because there is no person around to manage the schedule?

Perhaps it is the same as for restaurants that will not take bookings:

    1. They are popular so feel they do not need to do so.
    2. Any missed appointment is lost income.
    3. There are no gaps - so no time lost and, therefore, no lost income.

Same applies sometimes in home countries - doctors/dentist prefer we wait 2 hours than they should lose 5 minutes waiting for us.

Not sure I would buy the restaurant analogy as the relationship is different and generally less personal, but there are similarities.

It's a double edged sword. Some people will avoid a doctor who doesn't take appointments. I know I would if I can. Secondly, it goes to patient care/caring versus the almighty peso. I could see this for a first visit, but at a minimum follow up appointments (relationship established) should be by appointment. I can dream...

But for all the 'personal' care of the doctor and his/her relationship with you, it is still a business. Few really go into medicine because they desire only to heal the sick - those people often join voluntary groups and go into disaster areas (with tremendous bravery) - most go into medicine as a well-paid job which, hopefully they also like.

So I think the reasons for restaurants and doctors not accepting 'bookings' are based on money in most cases. And it can work - I went to Lantaw (which does not take bookings) Jan 1st, 2nd and 3rd about 8 pm each time - every time there were people sitting on benches, menus in hand, waiting to be called for a seat, and that is a very big place. So people were willing to turn up and wait. I left and so they lost my custom - but in their business model it did not matter, they were at full capacity anyway.

I had Dr. Denura recommended to me by a mutual friend and I am happy with her.
I don't know her personally, but she was pleasant enough to me and answered my questions.

I agree with Outcast. Had exactly the same experience with Sayson. Kept going on her cellphone, didn't listen to anything that was said to her. Never again.

As a follow-up. Saw Dr Calindawagan at Daro. Chalk and cheese. Helpful, attentive and took his time to answer all my questions. Delighted with his service and will return. Highly recommended!

I would only recommend Dr Viola in Cebu. Doctors here almost killed me. He is american trained, keeps up his training regularly, and easy to talk to. He is a heart specialialist but also does general work. His number is 0977 920 945 1053

It seems any old patient who is contemplating extractions requires you to have blood work and see a cardiologist. Smoking, hypertension and diabetes are risk factors.

She set me an appointment with Dr. Calinawagon.

He looked over the blood work analysis, took my blood pressure and asked a few questions in perfect English. He signed his John Hancock and accepted his P400 fee.

I was extremely happy with the way he treated me.
