Panay President Rodrigo Duterte said on Saturday's speech on the 25th anniversary of the National Association of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines in Iloilo City, Iloilo Province, that he will suspend the implementation of the new law, which requires larger and color-coded license plates for motorcycles. - klajoo.com - The President had signed the Republic Act (RA) 11235 in March (see article 16.03.2019) and said, "I will try to persuade the Land Transportation Office (LTO) not to stick to it expose. " Duterte says he's talking to Sen. Richard Gordon, who is the originator of the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act. In all countries, there are no motorcycles that have two license plates, only one at the rear of the vehicle, says Duterte. The president said it was dangerous to put a license plate on the front of a motorcycle because it could pierce a rider's helmet. "Anything that's sharp, has sharp edges is not good," he said. Also, the fine of 50,000 PHP is too high, said the President and suggests to reduce the fine to 10,000 PHP to 15,000 PHP. "As a compromise, you'll need to increase the number plate on the back of the bike by a quarter to make the number visible," the president added. He said he signed the bill on the recommendation of the police and the military. KR 08.04.2

Just received my "proper" plates for car after 1 year. Included is a sticker with Hologram that must be mounted around rear view mirror (tinting not allowed over it). Seems that they are thinking of ANPR as in UK. (Automatic Number Plate Recognition system)......seems to me they are trying to run before walking. How about teaching the Filipinos to drive first! I have just returned from round road trip to Leyte.....what fun it wasn't. Every few seconds having to make snap decisions to avoid hazards, Dogs, Kids, Pedestrians, Goats, Pedicabs, Tricycles, Motorcycles, cyclists etc. Driving to Robinsons is a walk in the park, compared to my recent experience!!

Driving is definitely a challenge, and mentally tiring, your head has to be on a swivel at times.

Most, not all, Filipinos are offensive drivers, defensive driving is a foreign language to them.

Want to have an entertaining day, find a nice spot and watch them try and park or back out of a parking spot with someone directing them. A laugh a minute, and sad at the same time.

Wonder who has the licence to make the new plates? There's a buck to be made there.
