Where I think the line should be has already been stated. It is where the Philippines draws it IMO.

Tourists have been warned to avoid Na Jomtien beach in Chonburi after wastewater contaminated the sea turning it black.

The warning comes after footage shared to social media on Saturday showed the black putrid water gushing into the sea.

But with the beach expected to busy due to the holiday weekend, Moo 1 village chief in Na Jomtien Supot Inyam has warned tourists to stay away from the water and avoid the beach altogether, citing possible health risks should anyone come into contact with the wastewater.
Tourists have instead been advised to visit other beaches in the area.
Netizens have also been advised not to post pictures on social media.

My question would be, living retired here, who cares about a-holes. They are everywhere so ignore them. There are probably people here 2ho think each of us fall in that category so again who gives a fluke.

As a true-blooded Dumaguetena, born & raised here, I am inclined to agree with all of your observations. Dumaguete has changed, greatly changed from the Dumaguete of my childhood when we used to swim right there in the waters of the boulevard by the sea. The pedicabs then were pedaled, there were more horse-drawn vehicles than motorized ones so pollution was not much of a problem, etc. etc.

But when I tried to go to work in a bigger city like Manila and made a few trips to Cebu, I would always long to go back to Dumaguete. Life is crazier in bigger cities I have made a decision to make Dumaguete as my home. There are a lot of things to be fixed in this city but compared to the hassle and bustle of bigger cities, I am willing to cope and survive.

I agree to most in your post. It is getting harder by the day to live or retire in Thailand as an expat. Immigration/Visa rules are changed monthly, so are the reporting procedures, the latest addition was that now you even have to report your movements within the country if you go somewhere outside your "Muang"! The regime just don't want foreign residents, they want in-and-out tourists going to resort areas, spend their money and go back home again.

Air pollution is not a problem in Phuket at all. But waste water infested beaches are, to the same extent as in Pattaya. The Thai currency is stronger than most other so expat money are worth less by the day. So I am considering The Phil's as well. On my way to check out some areas (Negros Oriental, Bohol, Mindanao) within a month or so.

Some areas in Mindanao are dangerous, though.

Have a look at Samal Island. I have friends there. Not bad. I was there a few times and I liked it. The ferry from Davao is only a short trip.

I would if there was a bridge to Davao. The whole island has less inhabitants than DMG and I want 24H access to a decent sized town/city to be happy.
