I had a sliding window changed, I get a little bit choked when the guys removed the iron bars in 2 min, screws were flat but no problem. It's worth checking how the iron bars are installed, but I agree cameras keep many out and if not then a dog. Good to hear police react fast and always have the phone number to police on the fridge or place easy to find, I have friends close to my place and phone number to some of the neighbors too, I don't have an alarm with sound but know some foreigner who has. Pepper spray, baseball bat and rest I can name here

Sobering. Nice to read the lists of things to have. I'm still renting, but plan on a house next year. they go over 12 foot walls with barb wire on the top? Whew.

You are never without a risk anywhere unfortunately. We have some Belgian Malinois as well as other dogs, the Belgians are big dogs and quite intimidating.

Not everyone are dog lovers as we are, but our dogs do spend hours at night patrolling around our house; a chained dog that barks is worthless in my opinion on protecting your home and family.

We were some of the first folks to build a home in this area, there have been many more over the years. The area has not been immune to raids for drugs and such so the wife put in a number of cameras around our place.

Funny as she said some neighbors did not like the fact we were installing cameras that also pointed outside of our home and others were happy that someone had a bit of an eye on things.

In my opinion, most thieves or would be thieves are lazy on what they want to target...a Belgian Malinois is a tremendous deterrent.

Obviously my opinion but for those who have met my big boy...I know he will protect my family when I'm not home.

We found a very good camera system that is being sold at Polaris. The system comes with up to 8 cameras with night vision and the sales rep will install at a very low (in my opinion) cost. I personally would recommend a wired system due to previous experience with wireless systems being kind of flakey in performance. This system is called “Homeguard” and operates as a cloud based P2P so you can check online from anywhere without having to go through a DDNS to get to your home router, however that is available too. With this system you can also do motion detect alarms, automatic email and of course, continuous recording to a hardfile provided with the system and when monitoring you can take pictures of specific scenes. They also have individual Wireless IP cameras where you can add SD cards for recording plus voice. You can use the 2-way voice to to talk anybody you may see in the room. As long as your internet connection is running, the system is working. If internet is down, of course cloud services for remote viewing are down but it continues to record and of course your own local intranet still works at your home as long as your router is on. It works very well with your smartphone and also with your PC if your install smartphone OS emulator like Bluestacks.

I had Beligian Malinois for many years @home in Europe, so I know exactly where you're talking about. The best dog you can have. But nevertheless, a dog outside is always vulnerable to get poisoned, so @least one dog should be inside the house in case of.

We had a break-in a couple of months ago, stole around $2,000; so we bought a rottie.

Our neighbor’s house got broken in instead.
