To be honest, I don't know any hotel well enough to give a recommendation.

What are you looking for ?
Just a place to sleep for a couple of days ?
A nice resort on the beach or in the mountains ?

    For how long ?

Give me please some more input and I will try to assist.

Nowadays there are so many hotels in Dumaguete, it will make it difficult to recommend one, unless from own experience. I suggest the more upgraded hotels will offer better rooms than the budget ones. Have a look @La Essencia, rather centrally located. Sierra hotel may be also an option, though a bit more out of the city center. Bethel on the boulevard, though the rooms are very basic, but location good.

We stayed there for 3 weeks in 2006. Our room was large with a balcony, huge bathroom with a hot tub/
jacuzzi. Great old world charm. Fantastic breakfast service to the room.

We again stayed there in 2010 for one week.
That's as up-to date as I can fill you in on. As noted above in another comment more information from you on your preferences and price range would help a lot.

Trying to be helpful here: does it have to be Duma? On the National highway towards Siaton there are tons of resorts...a 30 minute hunt on Expedia/Agoda/Dnata etc should turn up some decent recommendations to suit most budgets. Likewise a 30-45 minute zip back to Duma doesn’t take too much off the day.

I enjoy reading the scabrous reviews on Tripadvisor of people’s hotel nightmares. Something to chortle about over the brandy when the wife’s watching her soaps mid-morning and just before I’ve taken my hobby pot-shots at the Mormon canvassers plaguing the area. Hrrrmph. “Elders” barely out of shorts. I digress. Tripadvisor. The worthy online guide to others suffering at the hands of the hospitality industry. Beats Happy Yipee Yay, Wowowee or whatever nonsense passes for entertainment on tv these days.

I must get a life. I believe they are only P23 pkilo in Sari Sari stores...

We will stay for two days and we are 8 persons (5 adults and 3 kids). Therefore to keep the prices on a reasonable level we will looking for two family rooms.

I think that Coco Grande is probably the nicest place you will find that is right in Dumaguete. I've stayed there twice, and was happy with the rooms and the service. I stayed in the Executive Suite room which is a nice room, but just has a single bed. I think you can request for them to configure the room with two beds, and I think you can also ask for cots. Best thing would be to give them a call and explain how many people in your party and let them recommend the best accommodation plan for your needs. But I do think you will be happy with Coco Grande, it is nice and is close to everything.

Henia Hotel was suggested to me when I was looking for rooms to fit 3 to 4 people. It’s right in Dumaguete City, somewhere along the Holy Child Hospital road. Rooms are two queen-sized beds, and offers free breakfast. If I remember correctly, the room cost 3k each.

It is as good as any that you will find in Dumaguete.

I recommend going to the other side of the island and checking in the Hotel Maefinn in Bayawan.
