I would like to buy 2 liters of pure, organic honey. To my knowledge there is no real honey sold on Siquijor island where i live. However, a few years ago, I did buy some honey from a specialty store in Dumaguete across from the Immigration office. It had an almost medicinal taste to it; not at all what I have been accustomed to in the west. I would much appreciate directions to a store or source, manufacturer of honey in or near Dumaguete. I am switching completely to honey as a sweetener for my home made yogurt and fruit. I am willing to buy in bulk if the price is reasonable. Thanks ahead for any information or contacts.

there are *usually* several honey venders at the valencia sunday morning farmer's market. it's wild honey and mostly sold in tanduay flats at ₱150. they also have comb on occasion. no heat used in the extraction process and the honey is strained thru a cloth. excellent quality! pm me if you'd like me to get you contact info.

Avoid CEM Brand often sold on shelves. Also (not in response to above comment) Be extra vigilant when buying Honey's in Tanduay flats. It may be real but more often just a boiled down sugar with some other components they sell as real. Many that come from Mountain areas with flats of Tanduay Fugaz's are usually doing the liquid gold scam (very prevalent) Also my Wife recently came home with Fugazi Honey in flats at 500 peso's a pop. Article explains the Philippines situation well. (in link)

Eg: Fake Honey Philippines. There are many more.

Here is how to know for sure. Cheers!

If you are near Roveira Drive where it joins the North Nat. Highway, Tues 12 noon-late-Wed all day, or Fri 12 noon-late - Sat all day, there is a market called PAO(Provincial Agriculturalist's Office). Outside at the gate or a couple of the stalls inside, sell natural honey, usually around P200/flat.

Very sobering information. I have been aware of fake honey here since I bought some 7 or 8 years ago in the store. Subsequent to that I bought honey from a health food mini store just across from the immigration office. Although it tasted different from any other honey I have eaten, it did seem to pass the water test. A note of interest is that like olive oil, there is an extensive amount of fake honey in the US and other countries. Fortunately where I live in the US was close to a local bee keeper with the best honey one could imagine.

To get back to the issue here in the RP, and specifically Dumaguete area I would hope someone might have experience with an "authorized" or FDA approved honey distributor. Certainly it is tempting to fall for the fake by the look and consistency, but one really needs to do more extensive tests which the vendors would never allow you before purchasing their products. So, again, the need for qualified and certified apiaries.

This symbol was added to the Unicode standard in version 3.2 and is assigned U+20B1 (₱). The symbol can be accessed through some word processors by typing in "20b1" and then pressing the Alt and X buttons simultaneously, or by pressing and holding "alt", then pressing "8369" on the keypad.

    or simly cut+paste ₱
