You can take your favorite variety of tomato, slice it and then plant the slices about an inch under the dirt.. apply water and sunshine.. maybe work the same with bananas... other seeded fruits..
it will depend on the variety of banana. plantains have fertile seeds but the commercially grown dessert bananas have been mutated and do not have fertile seeds. propogation is done asexually, vegetatively using the starts or pups from the parent plant..
Trying to get a Calamansi Tree to grow on my property but not much luck. Maybe I need to improve the soil to see if that helps . Tough to find that fruit in the states so I want to make sure I have some when I'm in the PI
Is the problem getting the seed to germinate or to grow from seedling to mature plant? For germination, I found this article quite good as it shows it from a more amateur viewpoint and has photos showing progress: https://steemit.com/homesteading/@jawker/how-to-grow-calamansi-philippine-lime-indoors For growing from seedlings (also includes tips on germinating in paper towels): https://www.livingincebuforums.com/topic/109304-calamansi-growing-tips/
Mark...definitely think improving the soil with good compost or vermicompost would help. Especially since you recently built your house the backfill may have not been the best and it takes time for all the critters that help with soil to get established. Vermicompost has worked well for us and is relatively cheap. Shawn
The vermicompost comes from a place called green base, is it just after the airport on the left if you are leaving Dumaguete. 250 peso for a 50 kilo bag...inexpensive in my opinion. The wife gets rice hulls from a local rice mill in Tanjay, best to ask around in your area. They run 15-20 peso for a bag the size of the vermicompost bags; the place the wife gets them from you need to provide your own bag. So we “recycle” the vermicompost bags. Hope that helps. Shawn
i think what Shawn is referring to is called, Green Farms Systems. GFS has several products: Vermicompost - worm compost SAMPI - Tuna Based fish fertilizer Microbase - beneficial micro organisms African Nite Crawlers turn south at Polar Bear Freezing and Storage and go to the end of the rd. https://goo.gl/maps/vdRDALteXZ9DHswj9 owned and operated by Alex Amor i've gave up trying to reach alex via fone or email years ago, maybe someone has his current contact info. you can learn how to make beneficial micro organisms, fish emulsion and more at https://www.unconventionalfarmsupply.com/
Is that the same Alex Amor that I see on some tarpaulin signs about the place "justice for Alex Amor", was he a doctor
Kepguy is correct...I knew it was Green something and remembered the bags say Green Base. Not sure about the owner, only dealt with the staff on the dozen or so times I've personally been there. Shawn
