Yeah, I'm not sure what the highway police mean when they say there are alternate routes. Maybe you just have to enter Sibulan via a secondary road, then you can jump back on to the highway.
I think this may have been taken out of Context a little, I feel that Tricycles can Travel the Highway but NOT pick up or put down Passengers en route but have to go from Point to point, Strange things happen though,
The way it is supposed to work if you live outside of Dumaguete: trike from your house to your municipality jeepney/bus terminal, jeepney/bus to Dumaguete, once in Dumaguete trike to where you are going. Reverse it going back home. Trikes should be able to operate on national highways within Dumaguete since the speed limit is below 40kph. This is public transportation in the Philippines. Don't like it; buy a car and hire a driver. Let's not act like there aren't options to deal with this enforcement.
So buy a car and hire a driver to haul my dogs or anything large or deal with the crowds at the bus terminal every time for only 3kms?
I am sure @Rye83 was not specifically referring to your special circumstances. Are these new 'Grab' taxis in use yet in Dumagute - being door-to-door they could help you. But being realistic, and hoping not to sound unkind, if any of us find ourselves in a place where our needs are not adequately catered for then we need to search elsewhere. There are small towns near Dumaguete where trikes can travel anywhere (I think), such a Tanjay and Bais. Also Bayawan, but that is further from Dumaguete for times you may need to go there. Hope you find a solution to meet your needs.
Yup but a bus can't haul the house I built haahaa. I'm really not worried I'm a surviver and will find a way. And so far it's only been inforced for 3 hours or so
Over the past 20 years that I have been in Dumaguete it has always seemed to me to be sensible to allow the Pedicabs to only ply the local area where they are centered. For example, for Dumaguete itself, down south as far as Robinsons, north to the Provincial hospital and inland to Hypermart. If you want to travel further, catch an Easy-ride or a bus. And for the buses, what is badly needed is a bus terminus north of the City centre to remove them completely from the city centre. If we must put up with buses going through the city, ban the use of air horns when inside the city limits, for all vehicles especially buses that most of the time blast them for absolutely no reason than to just say "GET OUT OF MY WAY".
This might be a bit off topic but something I have noticed here mostly regarding car drivers is the flashing of headlights especially when they are overtaking somewhere it is not safe to overtake. In the UK flashing your headlight's unofficially means you are giving right of way (the highway code does not condone this but people still do it) But here it seems to mean I am your side of the road so GET OUT OF MY WAY. Another lesson learned.
Absolutely, they have taken something that was meant as a courtesy to another driver and changed it into a demand. I usually flash my lights back to them, and then as they go by I give them a hand wave so they have to wonder if it might have been someone they know in that vehicle, might drive them crazy for a while trying to figure it out.
