    EDIT: Post Header should say Four Year Stroke Update
    I post periodic updates on my stroke recovery to offer a heads up on hopeful prevention and warning signs for others to ponder.
    To repeat earlier updates, you should have your blood pressure checked regularly as well as your cholesterol level. If you feel stressed, headaches, dizziness, or numbness in your arms or legs, do not ignore those signs like I did.
    So four years later it appears like I have recovered about all that is probable (but I tell myself not impossible to get better). I am about 2/3 the man I used to be; paralysis in the right arm and leg and numbness in the left arm and leg. I have had to learn to be one-handed left-handed. My balance and control is about half normal and I had to learn how to walk again, with assistance. I require a driver and need him by my side while walking (not nearly a normal walk). I need a cane for steps and getting up.
    The good news is last month we celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary and this Thursday is my son's 6th birthday party. I feel blessed to be alive and able to participate. I am also blessed to have a great wife to take care of me and an extended family to look after me. I am able to go to the gym 5 times a week and walk the harbor walkway.
    Other than coffee and talking with guys at Sans Rival at the mall, I am a home body and happy to help my boy with his homework and my wife with her college studies.p, and watch sports.
    Once again I will close by saying take care, having a stroke has a catastrophic impact on your life, if you survive it.

    hi pat, well this may sound trivial but give it a shot. i am a retired RN living in the phils. i tried taking turmeric 3 in 1, one cup of tea in the morning. starting about two years ago. within a week i had noticed an improvement in my balance and coordination which continues to this day. also an improvent in vision.

    to keep things in perspective, i only take three "regular" daily meds, two of those as half dose. although i have tried different "folk" meds, i have never found any of them effective for me. except turmeric tea so after two years its still on my daily list. just a few pesos to give it a try.

    otherwise, good luck with your recovery and respect for your postive attitude

    Just a note about turmeric which gets pretty good reviews from medical websites. We started doing the capsules a few years ago, then switched to the tea about three months ago, jar of powder from the kiosk outside Robinsons grocery, brand yamang bukid. The Jar says "100% pure powdered turmeric." The jar we started to buy last week, same place, implied mixed with other stuff, so we are looking for PURE 100%.

    fresh raw turmeric is available in the markets here. it's called dulaw, usually around ₱10 for a handful. i add a bit, raw, to my garden salads.

    I guess I should do a 6 yr update. Not much has changed last two years. Fell down walking and can’t walk as far (with help) as I could 2 yrs ago. Hit a plateau on improving from stroke damage even though I go to the gym 5 times a week. Recommendation: get a checkup at least twice a year. I didn’t before.

    could be an age thing, pat, i know my energy is leveling off.

    not that it's going to fix all ills;
    golden milk is another turmeric option. search; how to make golden milk with fresh turmeric.

    Golden milk is a traditional Indian drink that has its roots in Ayurveda. In in its simplest form it’s a blend of hot milk and ground turmeric. i saw a recipe using coconut milk.
