The vice governor announced this week that Negros Oriental is under RED alert for Coronavirus infections and folks are panic buying groceries and medicines for various ailments.

If you are above 60 and have underlying conditions, send your partner to do your shopping. Don't fight the shoulder to shoulder crowds and run the risk of being infected or you infecting someone else even if you are not sick yet.

If you are feeling unwell stay at home and alert your doctor and if it is necessary to go to the hospital, the doctor will advise the hospital to put on their protective clothing and receive you in the area infectious diseased patients are admitted. Silliman Medical Center is recommended for having protocols in place for receiving suspected Coronavirus patients.

If you think you can escape to your home country, you may be surprised to be placed into 14 day quarantine on arrival.

I am going to try and ride it out.

Can you provide a source that claims people are panic buying? Hypermart has been well stocked and no more crowded than usual. While there I did see one western looking guy with a shopping cart full of toilet paper. Figures. As long as we have enough toilet paper we can get through this lol.

    I don't know.
Today I saw a lady buy all of the alcohol off the shelf at a local convenience store. A couple of weeks ago there was no alcohol on the shelf at Save More.

Actually I would think the only thing worse for ManKind than a Pandemic, is Mankind not bringing home the toilet paper....... / The chance of me locking myself in my home with the Wife and (no toilet paper?) is about zero odds

As of this morning I would have called BS, but right now the wife is stuck in a line at Hypermart and I just saw the longest lines I've ever seen at Savemore. And at 3:00 in the afternoon at that. Gave up on getting a couple of small items. Looks like there IS some 'panic buying' going on.

My wife works at a local bank and reported to me that this morning shoppers at Lee Plaza were filling the big carts over flowing and her co-workers were calling their family members and helpers to hold their place in checkout while the other members were cleaning the shelves.

My wife as a child lived through the Marco's martial law and groceries were rationed according to family size due to the conflicts in Manila and Cebu. Here in Negros grocery shortages weren't refilled for months.

If it is totally justifiable prudent preparation then should we still call it "panic" buying?

Which kind of alcohol is disappearing from the shelves, the disinfecting kind or the good stuff?

Yes - sorry about that. But as least my current outfit had a test drive and passed!
