Are you suggesting that doctors are willing to skip the gowns, masks and gloves when operating on non-COVID-19 patients?

"So you are saying?" Talking like an immature and jealous girlfriend/wife so I'll answer to you like I do them:

No, I didn't say that. GTFO my face and come back when you learn how to listen/read.

Nice. That's what your analogy suggests. I realize hospitals really don't want this headache, we just don't know if they are unequipped or not. I haven't read anywhere of an overflow of COVID-19 at ACE.

You might have missed the first post in this thread. Ace said they don't have the correct PPE. They go on to say Covid-19 patients will interfere with the normal operation of the hospital.
There has been a lot on the internet about Dumaguete and this crisis. I gathered the only hospital accepting virus patients is the Provincial hospital and they don't have any respirators. There are around 10 respirators in town (FB) that are at the private hospitals.

My reply had nothing to do with ACE, but whether hospitals (in general) have any kind of duty to sick people. I didn't even specifically say they did, but gave examples of some occupations where people had to take risks as part of the job. The statement was made to provoke thought. Now to your specific statement.

Well there is a recipe for death. The worst cases require respirators and the only hospital accepting patients is a public hospital. Most patients will likely die waiting to see a doctor in the public hospitals. Good luck getting to Cebu or Manila if anyone comes down with a serious case of COVID-19 in Dumaguete before 4/15. If private hospitals generally have the best equipment and best infrastructure, and they can't help, then who can? As I said, I know nothing about ACE and my comment wasn't/isn't specifically about them. I wish you luck if you come down with a serious case of COVID-19 in Dumaguete.

All you ever wanted to know about PPE, gowns, etc and COVID-19.

Thank goodness the majority of doctors and nurses dont think like some of the participants on here because if they did we would all be sick and no one to go to for help. Try watching the clips of the doctors and nurses in New York. They are doing their best under terrible conditions and have not walked off the job because of shortages. They deserve our thanks for putting themselves at risk and not putting their own situation first.

I have four personal stories with experience at ACE, one in my family and three from friends. They are all horror stories. I'm sure some have had good experiences, bless them. I saw that a large delivery of PPE was just air shipped into Dumaguete the other day, did any of it go to ACE? Are they changing their policy as a result? Were they actually completely out of PPE when they made this decision, or just not at a "comfortable" level? Were the hospitals in Wuhan and Italy and Spain and New York and New Orleans ... were those hospitals at a comfortable level of PPE inventory? NO. But did they say if you show up at our doors in critical condition struggling for your life we are just going to shoo you away? NO. It's supposed to be that if you're a hospital that is not an option you would even consider. Instead they got creative and found ways ... they used ski goggles and swim goggles and plastic page protectors, they sewed their own masks, they re-used and sterilized, they made gowns out of garbage bags, they fixed and modified their own ventilators ... they did what they had to do to provide care to all those who came to them because locking their doors to people who needed their care was not an option they would ever even consider because they honor the oath they swore.

"I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help."

As a community, let's remember when this is over who it was that locked their doors to us when we needed them.

I am beginning to get the sense that the world is going to have to let the virus play out until the killing is over, vaccines are developed and put out to the masses, and people have to be smarter to stay alive.

The problem there is the 'being smart' part! Too many saw the damage this virus was doing in China and then argued relentlessly about the pointlessness of wearing masks, eye protection, isolating. Too many looked at issues very narrowly and gave advice such as sterilising take out food boxes but not to widen it to sterlise everything coming into your home.

It soon became apparent who to listen to and who to ignore - the intelligent ones listened to sensible advice and the rest listened to anything anyone told them.

If this virus had been given a free run, with no intervention, it would have killed many innocent elderly people but also the World's IQ would have shot up.
