No passes in out barangay but wife received rice and sardines. She tried unsuccessfully to get my 8 yr old boy to eat the sardines (he likes dried fish). At least some of his American blood is showing.
I wouldn't worry too much, if he gets hungry his range of acceptable will widen. Meanwhile there's more for everyone else!
Sunday, we got our two kilos of rice but I guess the sardines will come later. Two handfuls in a pot of boiling water and some veggie scraps make a fine lugaw. Don't forget the salt and pepper! shakey
I have yet to receive anything other than a pass from West Balabag, Valencia and I enjoy sardines and rice.
I'm curious what the purpose of the food distribution is. Is it to help only the poor deal with quarantine or is to help people maintain social distancing? I was told that foreigners won't be getting any of the supplies, which is fine with me, however they need to be a little more lenient with the quarantine rules for us since we should expect zero support and assistance or sh*ts given if we are infected from the local government. I'm in no immediate threat of going hungry so not a big deal for me but I know many others are not as free to travel around as I am. However, this definitely will have an impact on how militant I will be at looking out for numero uno and only numero uno. If things get worse I hope nobody comes to my door asking me to care about their problems.
You have often said, and members agree with you, that no-one should go to a poor country and expect benefits. But, after this crisis is over, tourists will become very important, with countries competing even more to get their cash - if news stories are circulating about tourists in a severe crisis being thrown out of their hotel rooms and on to the streets and others left to starve, will this not reflect adversely on that country? They need to ensure the well-being of everyone in the country, or else they should not open their arms to tourists - even if that just means they co-ordinate (lol) and let foreign governments and expats help shoulder the costs.
Correct, I do not expect handouts. However, I do have a Filipina that is basically a prisoner (from a different cluster) in my household (that they refuse to issue a quarantine pass to) that I must support and provide for. I like her so that isn't an issue but they are essentially passing their responsibility to assist her on to me simply because she is in a house with a foreigner. I must risk my own health and financial well-being to provide what they are responsible for. Again, this isn't really an issue for me but others may not be in the same situation as me (under 65, healthy, in a low risk infection category and financially stable). She deserves and is entitled to those handouts promised by the government.
Totally agree, Filipino's in Canada, USA and UK are getting the same benefits as nationals even if they are not citizens,, these people b*tch about racism and yet are the most racist of the lot...
Rye I think it is the exact point you are trying to make, a Filipina in her own country alienated because she is not from Dumaguete.
