My friend, Andrea Guarnieri, was murdered in Dauin at his home March 29 2019. Apparently, the crime, like many here, has not been solved. Sad, I hope his family in Italy fights to keep the case open.
interesting reminder...there are always reports about incidents in the news, but then the stories end. never any follow up investigation from journalists. all the homicides in Duma and around last year; big silence. what happened to the korean national crashing into the checkpoint? no interest in investigative journalism here?
It is true that the journalist do not follow up. Furthermore, when they do report the outcome and punishment of a case they often refer to the case by case number instead of making the effort to describe the case. Many cases get solved but we do not know which ones because they only list the case number on FB.
I've noticed an obsession with numbers here - massively long numbers attributable to laws are commonly quoted, probably explaining why they are mostly ignored.
This is true the world over. Everyone now expects to get news for free. Anything pitched as ‘free’ either was already paid for, will be paid by deceit at some later time, or has no value. Journalism is now mostly unpaid interns Googling stories off the internet to be spun and regurgitated on some other platform. There is no longer any budget for a brain cell.
