Did it work in any other places?
Before I left for France I notified the bank (Metrobank) and neither the ATM or credit card worked. I called the numbers on the back of each card and the help (NO HELP) folks kept telling me the internet in Cannes was too slow...blah blah.
After many phone calls I called the bank manager to give him a blast. It turns out the ATM no help line didn't message him as he is the guy with the authority to turn on my card. He called the credit card crew to enable the credit card.
I had the bank turn on my ATM card permanently.
    Frustrating as....

I never use the credit card overseas. The exchange rate is obscene.

Isle of White may be a good choice, or the Isle of Mann, perhaps the Orkneys, the Falklands, Guernsey, not forgetting Ireland of course.

I was thinking of somewhere close to England and Scotland - the Orkneys, btw, being part of Scotland. The Falklands, that British territory, is far too far away! Anyway, I have a contract to get visitors into Wales, so please don't ruin my sales pitch!

My issue is i bank here, i don't have any foreign bank accounts, if i transfer a large amount of money from here to the UK i am going to get hit with 30% to 40% tax.

Yup know where the Orkneys are but thought I would throw it in and the Falklands, British/English? In most peoples parlance there isnt any difference.

People tent to get confused between England, the United Kingdom and Great Britain.

You mean income tax? Inheritance tax? Which other tax?

For the second one, just avoid dying.

I use transferwise because they give y0u midrate of the day and you pay a set fee percentage. All others take a point; i.e. if the midrate of the day is 49:1 you get 48:1 plus a fee.
