I cannot ever see postings linked to FB but assume this is the article I read in the media regarding face shields mandatory in malls and other enclosed spaces. I think I might be the odd-one-out here (not unusual!) when saying I think that is good idea - as long as they are worn over a mask. Three reasons: 1. People are not great at wearing masks correctly - they think dangling it from one ear, wearing it on the chin or uncovering the nose so they can breathe (!) is the proper way. This will give a modicum of additional protection - although I have already spotted the trend of wearing them tilted up above the head! This is usually the 'cool' youth way. And, btw, why do some guards ask customers to remove their masks when taking forehead temperature??? I have been told this may be so the CCTV can capture the face for 'contact tracing' - oh yeah, going through thousands of images and then locating ALL those people (who may have come from miles away) has zero chance. 2. Few currently wear eye protection and the virus can enter that route. 3. Most masks are okay (on the 'better than nothing' basis) but are not as effective as they need to be to stop viral transmission - the face shield is another barrier. 4. Psychological: Making people, especially less intelligent ones, to think maybe this virus pandemic IS serious (the bike barriers made it a joke IMO) and they might be a little bit more careful. Plus, possibly giving some people more confidence to go out and spend. I welcome the input of anyone who disagrees, although it will not change my opinion that in most countries, a double barrier is going to reduce infections - and I think everyone agrees, the World economies need to crank up again.
Valid reasons .. I would only add that if used properly then Seniors should be released from lockdown to actively participate in the revival of the economy as we do spend a significant amount ...
Absolutely agree - especially in certain areas. I know we think alike on much of this - get protected and then get out. It would have made 'lockdown' unnecessary in much of the World.
I might also add that "face shields" will add to my disguise along with hat and mask to pass for 59 ... Huzzah !!
Will it be allowed to paint (or stick on) a false face? Business idea - sell the shields to look like known celebs (20% please for the idea). Who would we choose? Mine would be @Rye83 - the youngest and most handsome man around.
if so, i am leaving with thousands of expats. as soon as we are allowed to leave. And it is increasingly looking like Duterte has made a deal with China for financial bailout. Beware Chinese bearing gifts.
Concerning the face shields, Cebu City was reported to have flattened the curve this week. How about all of the countries that have been held up as examples? Cebu accomplished it before the mandatory face shield and the other countries never even broached it. Nobody ever asks these geniuses who come up with these knee jerk reactions about that or how it was accomplished without these ridiculous ideas.
well, wait and see, the next step will be Saran Wrap cocoons. i think it is already true that if you are a heart patient or pulmonary patient you should think twice about wearing a mask. i still stand by my position that the whole covid response is absurd and that we will be the laughing stock of future generations. less than 3000 covid deaths out of 600k annual filipino deaths. more people are killed by falling coconuts each year. (ok, maybe not but you get my point)
