75php per hour isn’t so bad for a temporary condition. It depends upon how you ended up here in the Phils. If you came here because your spouse was Pinay and she has family, and you agreed to move after retiring as long as you could meet certain conditions including mitigating the oppressive heat and humidity with aircon, fine that is your plan. If you came maybe because you could live a better life on a limited pension and are willing to do so without power temporarily, that is fine too. You get used to the heat and live like a native in many ways including sans AIRCON. I can respect that. In my case, I never would have agreed to move here without aircon so I bought a whole house generator and pay for the gas maintenance and oil, it is worth it. Whatever people decide to do, they should decide what they will want in advance of moving here and make sure they have the budget before making the move. Having said that, I do find myself getting more and more used to the heat and find myself using it less and less, especially at night here in Valencia, but to me those 10-12 hour blackouts are a bit too much, especially considering that they are not as rare as a typhoon or earthquake; they happen every few months. Perhaps, depending on the ability to get out and around, ones health and maybe some other items. Also, hard to do what you suggest if the brown=out comes around 10PM with no immediate end in sight, curfew is at 9PM. I think, having been in the Philippines for some time, experienced more than I care to remember brown-outs, the Gen-Set has probably pad for itself in the long run, if just from, one thing I don't have to worry about anymore perspective.
I live like a native in my/our house. The house was built in a way to use the sea breeze to cool the house down. I do feel the heat in summer but ceiling fans cool me down. I don't like air-con it gives me a sore throat. I have an inverter and battery for PC/Monitor and modem.
I agree with you. Aside from the cost, A/C is unhealthy for all manner of reasons. I have A/C, but have never turned it on during my 18 months or so here.
I wonder why it is, then, that major hospitals supply air conditioning to patients’ room. Doctors offices are air conditioned. Workplaces and aircraft, malls, public places are all air conditioned with no complaints if it being unhealthy. You do need to keep the filters clean of course. Filtering out things that, don’t you think, might go direct into your lungs if an aircon were not present? I think a 35C room at 75% RH is actually unhealthy to some people, especially if it is hard to sleep, if not downright uncomfortable depending on personal preference. After a while you aclimate here but on some of these hot days, INIT! Need the aircon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Im currently in bali indonesia ,which is a developing country to the phils ,similar problems but at least the power is stable with the occasional cut ,the last one around 6 months ago for an hour so ,the voltage is rock solid less than a couple of %. If this place can do it why not the phils ,your power cuts remind me of somalia 30 years ago ,boring always on and off ,the boring rumble of generators ,what is wrong with the philipines it should be better than a broken country like somalia .
Did not read all 7 pages on generators and BLACK-outs, but one comment on a post on page 1. "Bamboo ladders" are far preferable to METAL ladders when working around electrical s**t, it's intentional... Our neighbor has a gen and we barely hear it, I would have one in a sec if we weren't moving in a year. That's what I say every year.
