I understand exactly that happened to several hotels in Boracay whose foreign “owners” purchased their land that way. There were a number of claims from descendant heirs of the original “mother titles” and I think there was no choice but to pay them to sign off if the cases were even resolved at all. Of course, where land titles are involved Filipino citizens would have to holders. But amongst local residents, it seems to work; a niece’s husband’s family has a beautiful lot (by tax declaration) on the beach in Siquijor where they built a large house from OFW money. I doubt that anybody would try to claim it right now but if foreigners are involved it would become a different story. Future heirs to the mother title could get greedy but there is some honor where foreigners are not involved.

Yup............. Wonder what that land will be sold for in the future after all thought of a new airport has died down a bit.

It will take a long time to sell because the Politicians who bought it will not sell for a loss.

Latest is it's definitely shelved in a list of prestigious developments to suffer the same fate (short of funds, perchance?). Shelved does not mean scrapped, of course, but here I guess it means that most of us will never see it. This all seems a little at odds with the 'build, build, build' mantra that the layers of government keep pushing out. Seems like that's all bu*****t that they can hang onto any completed project, large or small.

Two ways to acquire property here, especially if you are going to make a windfall.. One is to buy it above board and the other way is to have your executive assistant inquire with certain agency's about the tax liabilities of the land owners. Anyone who has bought property here knows that most property owners have failed for years to pay land tax.. so just for example i am in a position to report it to the BIR i would have pretty good leverage to buy that property cheap. If you don't believe that happens here i guess you have not seen it.. There are large property's owned by politicians in this country that were acquired in this manner..
