Since it was mentioned earlier in the thread, let me mention that the street in front of the Valencia Municipal Hall had its concrete poured in the last few days. The concrete truck said UYCONDEV on it, but it appeared the other equipment was municipality (as were probably the laborers.) So, give it a month to cure enough to allow PhilSouth's massive dump trucks to drive over without destroying it and maybe it will be again open to traffic.

 

I was surprised myself to see that video—they did work on it in the midst of pandemic—the budget has to be used

It's not really my money being spent....well, maybe a little here and there....but I did have an opportunity to get a glimpse of the Colon Bridge (which has been closed the longer of the two) from the turn off Colon St to cut over to Dr. Miciano Rd. I had to laugh since I thought it would be much further along. You can see the actual end of the span abruptly ending about three storeys above the level of the river bank. Not the first hint of an approach ramp. It will be a very long time before that bridge accepts traffic.

 

Like many construction projects around here, land acquisition seems to be a huge hurdle (bacong airport, diversion road).... Would have been nice if they had waited on the BIR bridge until they finished the Colon... I just hope they finish at least one bridge before they start the Legarda Road bridge (the road between Palinpinon road and Valencia. I don't see "eminent domain" around here very much.

 

Evidently the eminent domain laws here don't have much teeth and advantage the land owners to a very large degree. One tall tree )and an owner who refuses to let it get cut down) in the approach path to the eastbound runway at Sibulan keeps airline operations very restricted. It would be nice to have that one-lane steel bridge on LEgarda Road replaced. I have been told that the original steel bridge cost them PHP 10 million to install and was later washed downstream by a typhoon flood and was very damaged. The estimate to retrieve it, repair it and reinstall it was PHP 40 million. So, rather than just install another brand new steel bridge for PHP 10 million, they spent the PHP 40 million to repair the damaged on and reinstall it. Great financial thinking.
