I've sailed but only for a couple of years in San Francisco, CA about 12 years ago. Took some classes to learn the basics and went sailing regularly on weekends. I would need some refresher practice but would definitely love to get into it again. If ever there was a local sailing club of sorts around here I would jump at the chance.

I have sailed Greece, Thailand and Whitsundays in Australia but not for about 10 years and only on rentals through a company called Sunsail.

I was really surprised how The Philippines dosnt have a larger sailing community. With so many islands to explore I have often wounded about sailing again.

Anyone know if there are haul out facilties in Cebu? Otherwise a keeler would be in trouble here, which leaves you with something you could beach easily.

I also wonder if there is a market for leisurely cruises around the islands. I don't mean a (old rusty) ferry from A to B, but something with a bit of luxury and stop-offs at various places (assume have to use smaller vessels to get from ship to shore as few places would have facilities to dock a cruise ship).

A small cruise ship would be ideal.

I think a fair few cheap ones would be on the market now if not soon....

Probably not enough money in the country (or with tourists/expats) to justify such a ship. With a bit of research and planning a "cruise" around the country could be achieved with the existing ferry companies and their business class beds/rooms.

I think it's not so easy to reserve the more expensive, private cabins.

Do it in advance then. However, I have never had an issue getting one last minute. Many were truly disgusting and not worth the price and the price sometimes doubled the listed price because they said you had to rent the room for two even if there was only one passenger (these issues were mainly on the older run down ferries operated by smaller companies) but they were easy enough to book.
